Why are so many shows still doing reruns?
The other night Miami CSI was a rerun, tonight Lost is a rerun arghhhh I hate it!
I think there’s been enough reruns this year … there were reruns on during the Olympics for most of the popular shows, then a lot of shows took a good chunk of March off for march break and March Madness … some of the shows have only had one or two new episodes since late February or early March. Grrrr
Lost being a rerun tonight really ticked off both my husband and I. At the end of last weeks episode it showed highlights of what was supposed to be this weeks new show. Even the website didn’t give a promo for a rerun until today. I wish there was an easier way to learn more about when new shows or reruns would be playing. The sites don’t help … especially for me, in Canada, as I can’t view the preview videos on any of the major US Network websites.
Sorry … I’m not feeling good tonight and I was looking forward to watching a few of my shows.

I totally understand how you felt. There are just too many reruns and I can’t say there’s any show I’d like to watch 2 times. Looking forward to something fresh, however I don’t think we’ll see anything till autumn.

Greentreecaree – the shows I’m talking about haven’t ended yet for the season. Lost still has four more episodes (then it’s over forever), CSI Miami and for that matter CSI New York (and Criminal minds -both reruns tonight I believe) haven’t finished yet either … so we don’t have to wait until autumn for more new shows … but why so many reruns when the season is still on?

I have to say I watch so little television that I never see a rerun. Though you would think that the networks are losing enough viewers to the internet they would keep new stuff on the screen at all times.

I think the whole rerun problem has gotten much worse since the writers went on strike a while ago. it really bothers me when there is new stuff ready to go, but the station decides to throw in a bit of filler to make everything last that much longer. Not telling anyone until the last minute almost seems like deceptive advertising.

A&E will get me hooked on some Drama series like CSI Miami or Criminal Minds and then they show me 8 reruns that they have already aired and I’m off to something else.

I agree! My other issue is with the huge number of commercials and the increased audio volume. We used to be able to channel surf during one channels commercial spot but now they seem to have those time slots synchronized throughout the networks also. Sounds like I need to buy a Tivo.

We’re “lucky” in the UK when it comes to reruns, but it comes at a price.
over here we never have the problem of a season’s story arc being interrupted by reruns. if a show has 22 episodes in a season then we will get those 22 episodes over 22 consecutive weeks (with the occasional missed week in the event of a major sporting event etc).
the price we pay though is the length of time we have to wait for these seasons to start.
something like smallville (my main guilty pleasure show) will start a new season in the States in the fall and will be interrupted throughout the run as the production schedule catches up to the broadcasts.
over here to get around that they do not show one single episode of a season until the whole season is in the can. this means that the show will have finished in the States before it premiers over here. it is then a nightmare trying to avoid spoilers on some of my favourite sites. in the case of battlestar galactica it was about 9 months after the last episode aired in the US that it was shown over here 🙁
of course by then the whole debate over the ending of the shows had been missed by me and i had to console myself with trawling thru 9 months old comments on sites like io9 to see what other fans thought of it all.
On the other hand though we are VERY lucky that a lot of american shows are shown without ad breaks over here on the BBC. there were never any ads in an star trek series, monk, 24 and many others. sadly though the satellite/cable channels are outbidding the bbc for newer shows so these days are coming to an end.
great site. keep ’em coming.
