Say hello to my new renter!

It’s been a while since I’ve actually rented out space and I’m very please to have Winsome Gunning share some space with me this week.

The Winsome Gunning Art Walk blog is a showcase of personal art work by a very talented artist. Along with each piece of Art work displayed the artist included a personal introspective about the art work, or what was happening in her life at the time that brought about the piece being displayed. You can also learn more about various artist that she admires when reading her posts.

The paintings I produce are about working from the creative spirit within.

At different times themes emerge which I feel drawn to develop but always my work is about discovering this spirit and listening to its promptings.

It is a daily walk to keep myself clear of the blocks which stop me connecting to this creative flow.

Blogroll mania

I spent part of Saturday creating three new blogrolls that I think some of you might be interested in joining.

I’ve been busy trying to think of ways to get more traffic to my site and gain readers, and I’ve found that through the blogrolls that I’ve joined and participate on that I’ve not only gained traffic, but I’ve gained some regular visitors too. Along the way I think I might even have made a few friends.

I thought I’d give some of that back to the blogging community by creating a few blogrolls that people might like to join.

The first is the Fabulous Photoblogs blogroll. When I started my photoblog I went looking for sites to get listed on and I found very few that were specifically for photoblogs. There also isn’t any blogrolls that only photoblogs can join. well, if there is I didn’t find them, and I did search. As of this moment I have the only photoblog on the roll but I do hope that others are interested as it would be a great way for all of us to keep track of the great photo posts that the photoblogs are doing.

The next two blogrolls are also very specific rolls:

Toronto Bloggers blogroll – open to any bloggers that come from the GTA area, who post regularly and who fit in with the other guidelines in order to qualify for a spot on the blogroll.

I am Canadian blogroll – Calling all Canadian bloggers. Lets keep track of each other and build a small community of blogs. You can join this blogroll if you live in Canada or your an expat Canadian.

I’m thinking of creating one more blogroll that is less specific. One that would be open to most everyone that updates their site regularly and who don’t have offensive material on their site. Would you be interest in being listed on a general blogroll? If you would, you would of course need to put the blogroll on your site in order to maintain your listing.

If you want me to start yet another blogroll let me know. I’d also appreciate it if you helped me come up with a great name for it. It’s 4 a.m. right now and my brain is a little fried. Hmmm, I’m just looking at the title of this post and perhaps we should call a new blogroll the Blogmania blogroll?

I believe this is Jasmine Sambac. We purchased this plant from Home depot a couple of years ago and if you’ve ever bought tropical plants there you know their labels don’t say much.

Heck sometimes they just say tropical plant. Yeah, that helps.

Our Jasmine had a rough winter in the house and while it looked healthy enough it didn’t want to start to bloom until now. This is one of the first blooms in at least 8 months. However, it’s covered in buds so I think I’m going to get my jasmine fix.

Does anyone else keep Jasmine plants? Can you identify this for me? The bloom last at least three days and it’s open during the day time – not just at night.

This is Korean money. Our first boarder showed us some Korean money and was kind enough to give us a sample. I believe that the 1000 bill is equal to one American dollar.

I figured that there would be a lot of variations on the theme this week and I had some interesting ideas. However, I thought that many of you probably hadn’t seen Korean money before so this might be a little different. Have a great weekend!

Thirteen Things about ODD LAWS

1…. Canada’s Criminal Code states that anyone, “offending a public place with a bad smell” is liable to two years in jail. If that’s true where are the Feds when someone stinks up a grocery store aisle with a “silent but deadly”?

2…. One old law in British Columbia makes it illegal to kill a Sasquatch (big foot). Another in Toronto makes it illegal for pigs to run in the streets. This became law in 1834 and has never been changed. I’ll have to remember that the next time my neighbors take their pot bellied pig out for a run.

3…. Margarine was banned from Canada in 1886. However, in Quebec it is illegal for margarine to be the same color as butter. For years, it was illegal in that province to have margarine in your refrigerator. It costs $100,000 per month for Quebec to produce non-butter colored margarine. I knew about the Quebec law, but I didn’t know about margarine being banned in all of Canada. That law must have changed ’cause I have margarine in my fridge.

4…. In Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, all cyclists are required to carry a kerosene lantern, which can be seen plainly. Oh that must be fun when they wipe out!

5…. You cannot release ten or more helium-filled balloons in any City of Toronto park within a 24 hour period. But, I have Compulsive Obsessive disorder and I MUST release eleven helium-filled balloons every day or else the world will stop turning! What am I going to do if I get caught?

6…. In Fort Qu’ Appelle, Saskatchewan all teenagers walking down the main street must have their shoes tied. Tied to what? I’m picturing a row of teens walking, each with one shoe tied to their nearest neighbors shoe.

7…. According to a British law passed in 1845, attempting to commit suicide was a capital offense. Offenders could be hanged for trying. LOL what irony.

8…. In Michigan, it is illegal to chain an alligator to a fire hydrant.

9…. On the island of Jersey it’s against the law for a man to knit during the fishing season.

10…. In Fairbanks, Alaska it is illegal to feed a moose alcoholic beverages.

11…. It is illegal to hunt camels in the state of Arizona.

12…. Mailing an entire building has been illegal in the U.S. since 1916 when a man mailed a 40,000-ton brick house across Utah to avoid high freight rates.

13…. and finally … In Texas it is illegal to have sex with a fish; in Florida it is illegal to get a fish drunk; and N.Carolina thought both laws were so good so they passed a law stating it’s illegal to have sex with a drunk fish.
