Update on our sick cable

November 10, 2006 by Tricia

I’m very pleased to say that for the last two days we’ve been getting a good signal on our TV hurray!!!

I really don’t watch all that much TV – even though at times it might seem like it since I talk about my favorite shows every now and then. I guess I probably end up watching more TV in the autumn when all the new shows come out. Some that end up being canceled and others that end up being moved around to different days if they make the first few crucial months.

Even though I don’t watch much TV it’s important to me that it be working when I need it to work. I have chronic pain due to my crohn’s disease and some times it really gives me a good wallop and I can’t do anything but lie on the couch or in bed. It’s for those times that I need the TV and the signal to be working.

Does anyone else have a cable subscription and TV for reasons other than your own entertainment? ie Entertain the kiddies? Hubby? Background noise while you’re working?

Our cable has sick signal syndrome

November 7, 2006 by Tricia

Yes, our cable – you know the stuff that brings in television stations, the internet and sometimes even internet telephone – is sick. I’m so sad.

The cable guy came over today. He arrived at about 12 noon. Right away he knew that we had a serious problem. The signal was very very weak … and our channels … *sob* were about to go to digital heaven.

The surgeon technician had arrived just in time. He continued to monitor the signal but it continued to be weak. There was a signal in but no signal out – it was … dying. We had sick signal syndrome. Outside he went and he got to work installing a new pacemaker cable box.

It was touch and go for a while. We thought we were going to lose the patient signal all together. Then, the worst happened. My cable modem red lined! No internet connection at all. The doctor technician went back to the pacemaker cable box and discovered there was a corroded cable connection outside. The wire was replaced.

Finally after three hours, the signal grew stronger and the internet came back online. Our system is still very weak, and needs medicine a service call to the area to fix the service trunk to strengthen the overall signal.

As long as the pacemaker whatever he did keeps working we’ll be online and be able to watch and record our favorite shows on the PVR, and then once the medicine kicks in service call is complete we should be out of the woods and back to normal again.

If by chance I disappear for a while, well you’ll know that the pacemaker cable guys work failed. We’ll be back after the transplant service is restored.

Cross your fingers that everything keeps working!

My TV cable is messed up!

November 7, 2006 by Tricia

I’m mad at my TV or the cable company. I’m not sure who I’m mad at because I’m not sure who’s fault it is. Since there are a lot of shows on TV these days that we are interested in watching, but either don’t have time to watch or can’t watch because they are on at the same time, we’ve been recording them onto our PVR (personal video recorder).

A few times over the last week when we’ve been watching shows that we taped earlier in the evening or even a few days before we’ve been unable to watch the show. It’s all pixilated, digital grinding noise and just unbearable to watch or even listen to because you can’t make out the words. When this happened last night we called the cable company. We thought that maybe something was wrong with the channel that we were taping it from, but the cable company said that it’s a signal problem and if we don’t get it taken care of it will spread to our other stations.

The cable companies coming in to take a look today. I hope they can fix the problem. I also hope that we don’t end up having to get a new PVR (supplied from cable company) or else we’ll lose the shows I have stored up on it.

So that’s why I’m mad, I missed a few shows that I really like ’cause of that signal. Boo Hoo!

More comedy shows please

October 28, 2006 by Tricia

I was just flipping channels on the TV and I came across Married with Children. I haven’t seen that show in ages. Peggy and Al always cracked me up. LOL

This episode happened to be a particularly good one. I came across the show after the show had already started so I’m guessing that Peg must have entered a decorating contest. She re-did the main bathroom all in pink. If you ever watched this show in the past you might remember that Al liked his bathroom time. Well, he simply couldn’t use the washroom when it was all pink so he set out to get the bathroom back. On the day that she was showing the washroom to the contest judges Al loaded himself up with a combination of Tabasco sauce, tacos, refried beans- the works, and while the judges were viewing the bathroom Als meal kicked in. We don’t know exactly what happened up there, but everyone ran out of the house. I’m pretty sure that I can imagine what happened. Ewwww.

Al got his bathroom back after that. LOL

This wasn’t the best comedy show but it was funny. I found that last year there were very few good comedy shows on TV. The only really memorable one that stands out is “My Name is Earl”. This year a number of comedy shows have begun and I hope that a few of them make it through their first season. I think we’ve been over run with reality shows, murder-mystery, medical and detective type shows over the last few years. We need to get some good comedy back in the mix. Our lives are stressful, and nothing relieves stress better than a good laugh. Ok there’s a few other things, but laughter works well for most.

What comedy shows do you like? Are you enjoying any of the new comedy series that have started this year?

TV sucks!

October 27, 2006 by Tricia

I got some bad news on Thursday afternoon and I needed to take my mind off of things by Thursday evening. Usually some of my favorite shows are on on Thursday night but it seems the networks in there wisdom have decided to show a bunch of re-runs this week.

I think the only show that was on last night that I wanted to watch that wasn’t something I’ve already seen was Ugly Betty. I do like that show. I should have added it to yesterdays Thursday thirteen list. Survivor was a rehashing of what’s already happened on the Island this season. I hate those kinds of shows.

I don’t understand why the big networks start new or returning shows in Mid-September or early October and then have the shows take a break for up to two weeks at the end of October. Whats the point in that? Then they usually show reruns again around the American Thanksgiving period, plus half or most of December ends up being re-runs.

Are TV seasons getting shorter and shorter or is it just my imagination? What do you think?
