So Tired I Could Sleep All Day

October 30, 2009 by Tricia

I’m so wiped out this week. I don’t know why … but I feel like I could sleep and sleep and sleep.

I don’t know if I’m fighting a bug or if it’s my medications that are making me so tired. About a month ago I saw my internist and he upped my dosage of Pentasa (an anti-inflammatory medication) and ever since then I’ve been becoming more and more tired and oddly my hands hurt – a lot!

It’s so bad that I decided to look up hand pain and Pentasa on Google and I discovered that in a very small percentage of people it does cause joint pain … another side effect for a very few people is also tiredness … so yeah – maybe it’s the meds.

My hands are actually a little better this week, but last week they were hurting so bad I felt like I could barely do anything! I seriously started to wonder if I had Arthritis in both hands! I happened to see my pain doc last week and mentioned my hand pain (not the tiredness though) and she thought I might have tiny tears in my tendons … but both hands and all the fingers at the same time … I don’t think so. A reaction to a medication seems more likely to me.

I guess I’m super sensitive to medications. It seems like it this year anyway … remember I had a very bad reaction to a drug that contained Sulfa earlier in the year?

I guess I’ll just try to wait it out and in the mean time get some extra sleep. Being so tired makes it hard to do anything though. I’m just like a Zombie – LOL, well it is Halloween.

Last night Chris and I both took the dog for a walk and we stopped off at a store to pick up some things. The store had just got one of those new POS systems and it was giving the cashier some trouble … and me being so tired .. well, lets just say that the extra long wait in line wiped me out and finished me off the or the evening.

Have you ever had bad reactions to medications that were supposed to be helping you?

I can’t seem to get better

October 5, 2009 by Tricia

I’m still feeling awful. A few days ago I thought I was getting a little better – hey at lest that terrible pain in my right side went away but I guess was wrong.

I hate Crohn’s! I hate it. There I said it!

I won’t bore you or shock you with the details and symptoms of Crohn’s, but lets just say that I’ve spent far too much time over the last week lying down in pain or practically living in the bathroom. Hmmm … maybe I should set up my laptop in there? LOL Yeah, it’s that bad!

So … I’m going to try to keep up with my blogs, but if I go a few days without writing it’s probably just because I’m feeling crappy and need to just rest in order to feel a little better.

One good thing is that I saw my specialist today and he upped my Crohn’s meds … so maybe that will give my inflamed bowels a kick and make them a little better.

I need new body parts!

October 3, 2009 by Tricia

So last week I wrote a post about how crappy I was feeling due to a really bad Crohn’s flare. I swear the pain I was feeling was just like appendicitis. Awful!

As the week progressed I started to feel a bit better but then I got a few cankers in my mouth – another side affect for people who have autoimmune diseases.

Anyway … I’m feeling a bit better, but I could be feeling a whole lot better. Still it’s progress! Hmmm I think I need to get some kind of extended service plan for my body! LOL Somehow I don’t think I’d qualify.

Another family weekend – time for a break!

August 16, 2009 by Tricia

It’s been another family filled weekend! It seems like pretty much since mid July we’ve had family visiting or staying over every week! No wonder I’m feeling run down!

My husbands uncle isn’t doing so well these days and about a week ago, his family (the uncles) called to ask if Chris could spend the weekend looking after his uncle while they went out of town to a wedding.

Chris was up for the task, but we knew his uncles health was failing and I wasn’t sure if my husband really knew what he’d just agreed to! I mean taking care of a person who needs just about everything done for them is taxing and stressful. As it turns out his uncles daughter didn’t feel all that great about leaving her father for the weekend either so my husband and his cousin decided to take care of him together.

As things go in my husbands family the plan changed and his cousin and her husband did the main care taking duties over the weekend. In the meantime though … my husbands mother and another aunt decided to come down for a visit (and to see the sick uncle). So I’ve had a houseful of in-laws all weekend.

As I’ve mentioned over the last few weeks my Crohn’s has really been acting up so I didn’t go with the gang to visit Chris’ uncle (for hours and hours at a time!) as my stomach was just hurting too much.

Chris and I are going to go for a visit this evening though – just the two of us … more my style anyways.

Now that the weekend is just about over and Chris’ mother and aunt have returned home I think it’s safe to say that we’ll be relative free for a few weeks! I hope! Of course, if Chris’ uncle gets sicker that may not hold.

Have you had a busy “family” summer too? How do you handle it?

A little nervous about my thyroid biopsy tomorrow

May 13, 2009 by Tricia

Tomorrow I’m going to the hospital to have my Thyroid biopsy. I’m starting to get a little nervous. I know it’s not that bad, I’ve been through this before, in 1990 I think it was and while the biopsy (needles in the neck!) went ok and I didn’t really have any pain afterwords that I remember the results weren’t good.

It was only a few days after that first biopsy that I got a call from the doctor stating that she’d made an appointment with a surgeon for the next day and that I’d need to have part of my thyroid removed because the biopsy of the thyroid tumor showed that it was made up of pre-cancerous cells.

So …. having been through all that once before, including surgery to remove half my thyroid, I’m kind of thinking that the solid nodules that have grown in my remaining thyroid will end up having bad cells in them again now too. Which of course means more surgery.

I’m of mixed emotions tonight because of what I’ve explained above. Part of me would prefer to either not have the biopsy or at least delay it for another week, but then I’m also glad that it’s tomorrow, mostly because my Crohn’s is flaring really bad since I had to stop my Pentasa last week for the test, and once the biopsy is done I should be able to start taking my meds again and hopefully I’ll be feeling better again in a few days.

Speaking of the no meds Crohn’s flare I’m going through … it’s horrible. it’s as if I’ve taken a colon cleanser like Colonix and I’m experiencing the worst side effects like stomach cramps and frequent trips to the bathroom.

I haven’t even been able to eat properly the last couple of days. My stomach just hurts too much on regular food.

So yeah, I want the biopsy to be over so that my stomach pain can get better (ie start taking my meds again), but I’m worried that the results will mean I’ll be having surgery to remove the remaining portion of my thyroid soon, which sucks!
