Chris got the Job!

November 20, 2006 by Tricia

Remember I told you that my husband had applied to become an OR Recovery room attendant at the hospital that we both work at? We were supposed to hear last Monday if he got the job or not.

Even though there had been signs all along that he did get the job such as the schedule changing on his current position marking him as not available for the last two weeks of November, nobody called to officially say he got the job.

So last Tuesday, Chris frustrated with his Portering shifts being cut again this week (he only had one two hour shift on Wednesday!) went in to speak with the OR recovery room area director. She’d some how misplaced our phone number, but yes he had the job.

Chris starts on Monday!

He’ll be working 4 8 hour shifts per week, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm and when he’s fully trained he’ll be on call every second or third weekend.

We’re both very pleased since he’ll be working for a better boss, and he’ll have more hours. The job is probably a bit easier than what he was doing as a porter too so that’s a plus. Although Chris is a very hard worker, so I hope he doesn’t get bored.

Chris’ hair is thinning

November 15, 2006 by Tricia

Chris is going to be going to New Jersey sometime in the next few months to visit some long lost extended family. Kind of a family history family reunion type of trip I suppose.

I started look up some information about New Jersey for him- trying to find some things to do while he’s there and I came across a place that perhaps he should visit. LOL

It’s a place that does hair transplants New Jersey. Yep, Chris is starting to get thin hair up top. Well at the back of his crown. Maybe it’s time for some hair plugs?

Nah, I’m sure he wouldn’t go for it but I like to bug him every now and then. Just for kicks of course. I really don’t care one way or another if his hair is thinning in some areas.

I think he got the job!

November 8, 2006 by Tricia

Chris went to work Tuesday evening and everyone that he ran into kept congratulating him on getting the OR attendant position that I mentioned in a post this past weekend. Only problem was that he hadn’t been interviewed for the job yet. Huh?

Well he went and had his interview this afternoon and while they didn’t say that he got the job the director of the OR Recovery area told him he should speak with his current boss about the possibility that he would be changing positions before she did. Chris has balls (well of course, he’s a guy) so he told the director about people congratulating him the night before, and while she still didn’t confirm that he got the job she did reply to him that she “might have mentioned it to a few people.”

It will still be a part time job in the hospital but he’ll have more hours. He’s guaranteed 4 DAYS a week. No more day, evening and night shifts! Plus he’ll only have to be on call every third weekend, and when he’s on call he’ll get paid for four hours work even if he only goes in for an hour. AND since he’s still part time he’ll still be receiving the 14% on top of his hourly pay in lieu of benefits. HA!

The job hasn’t been confirmed but it’s looking good. Keep your fingers crossed please!

Wish my husband luck!

November 3, 2006 by Tricia

My husband Chris hasn’t been getting very many shifts lately. He works as a porter at the same hospital that I work at, but his job is only part time. He used to get a lot of shifts at least four a week, sometimes six or seven. Lately he’s only been averaging two shifts a week.

We could handle his fluctuating shifts when I was working, but now that I’ve been off sick for so long and have no income of my own coming in, we are really feeling his lack of shifts. So he’s been applying to a lot of hospitals in the area for portering or other similar positions, and he’s also been keeping an eye on the job boards at work.

He recently found two jobs worth applying for at work – one is an OR attendant and the other is an Ultrasound Attendant. Both jobs will have a lot of shifts and a better possibility of the positions becoming full time. Did I tell you that it can be very hard to get a full time position in the hospital? (unless you are a nurse like me of course).

He has an interview for the OR attendant position next Wednesday and hopefully he’ll be called for an interview for the Ultrasound position too. So wish him luck!

If he has to change jobs I hope that he can get a better one at the hospital that we both currently work in. It’s so convenient. We only live a few blocks from the hospital so we can walk to work. It’s wonderful.

12 years and counting!

October 23, 2006 by Tricia

Yesterday, the 22nd of October was my wedding anniversary! My husband and I have been together for 17 years in total- 5 pre-marriage, 12 married. All have been wonderful.

I had just finished writing a very long post about our time together but when I hit Save and continue editing my screen went blank and my post disappeared. I’m upset about this because it was a very long post and I’d put my heart into it. This is the second time this month that wordpress has caused me to lose a post. Grrr

So this post is going to be shorter!

In our time together Chris and I have been through a lot! Unemployment- one at a time and both at the same time, which of course meant major financial problems, we’ve each taken a turn going back to school – College or University in order to study for a new career, four miscarriages and serious illnesses for both of us, the major purchase of our house quickly followed by 9/11 and my husband being permanently laid off work on the same day, the death of my father, and then the death of my mother, followed one year later by my sister going into a coma after a mistake occurred during a surgery she’d had, and now my ongoing illness (Crohns) and inability to work.

Through the stress of all those bad things happening we’ve managed to stay together, build on our relationship and grow even stronger. I know many couples who’ve gone through only a couple of the types of things I’ve mentioned above that couldn’t hold their marriages together after those things occurred.

I credit the fact that Chris is not only my husband but my best friend, and my being his best friend as well for the strength of our marriage.

Even through all of the bad times we’ve gone through there has always been love and laughter almost every day. I love him with my whole heart and I know, when he looks at me in that special way of his that I am his world.

To twelve very happy yet very eventful years of marriage and many many more. I’m certain we are in this for the long haul.
