I just realized that whenever I talk about this lush red flowering plant, crocosmia Lucifer, I always show close up of the flowers. I thought I’d show you what a clump of crocosmia looks like when it’s in full bloom.
This isn’t the best photograph. The red is just so vibrant that it sometimes takes on an orangish tint in photographs. My new camera is much better with photographing reds than my old Pentax is. Obviously I took this photo with the Pentax, not the Sony.
This plant is very easy to grow. It blooms at least once a year, often twice. The clumps of crocosmia are 3.5 to 4 feet tall.
One clump that I have growing has spread so much in the last three years that I think I’ll divide the clump sometime this spring.
I often grow white flowers like fragrant Nicotina or Datura in front of the clump of crocosmia. The combination looks very nice together.
