Belated Christmas Gift for Chris – Concert Tickets

December 31, 2006 by Tricia

As you know Chris and I didn’t get Christmas gifts for each other this year. Finances are just too tight. We’re fine, but right now we just can’t over spend on anything. I’m pretty sure our financial situation will get better in January and better each month afterwords. I’ve been working on a few things and expect to start seeing some profit from my work around that time.

I sort of got my Christmas present early this year anyway. Remember I got a laptop in August? Yeah, we can call that my September Birthday gift, and my Christmas gift too. I’m fine with that. So … since I already got my gift, I’m now wondering what nice thing I can do for Chris in the new year when our finances are better?

I know he loves the Dave Matthews Band. A friend from Louisiana put us onto the band many many years ago. We were surprised to hear that Dave Matthews is actually Canadian but he’s made the majority of his success in the US. The band is so good they even won a Grammy in 1997 for Best Rock Vocal performance by a duo or group for the single So much to Say. We both enjoy the band, but Chris as I said is a big fan. It always seems like the Dave Matthews band is touring or playing somewhere as we hear about them quite often but we’ve never managed to see them play yet.

Now, I know they are playing in L.A. in March. March 23rd and 24th to be exact. I don’t know if we can make it to an L.A. concert, but I think I might investigate purchasing some Dave Matthews Band Tickets. That would be a perfect belated Christmas gift for Chris. If I can manage to make it a surprise that would be even better.

Wish me luck on my hunt!

Discount Orlando Theme park tickets

December 30, 2006 by Tricia

You might remember that I wrote a post earlier about possibly having our first vacation in who knows how long this coming year? Well I talked to Chris and he said he’d think about going to Orlando Florida. Now, when he starts to talk that way I know I’ve got him – he’ll go if I start planning the trip.

Now that I pretty much have Chris talked into going to Florida I’ve started to look around on the Internet to see what we can do there. One site that I like is Orlandofuntickets.com where I can purchase discount tickets for places like Disney World, or any of the Orlando based theme parks, dinner shows or other local attractions. Since the prices are discounted I can purchase Disney Tickets for a fairly low price. Certainly we’ll save some money by planning out what attractions we’d like to attend and buying the tickets in advance.

As I said in my earlier post I’m pretty sure Chris would want to go to Universal Studios and some of the Disney theme parks. I’ve been to Discovery Island before and I enjoyed it, and I think Chris would too. Oh I’m so pleased that I can get tickets for very low prices. I know when I went to Florida in the past I was traveling around the whole state with some friends that lived there and we’d just get our tickets right at the attractions that we choose to attend. Some of the prices were quite high. Now I won’t have to worry about that because I’ll be armed with my advance tickets.

I wonder if I can talk Chris into going to one of the dinner shows. We’ve never been to one but we both enjoy live theater and we’ve heard from friends how much fun dinner theater is. Perhaps I we’ll go to Arabian Nights or Medieval times? Has anyone been to either of these shows? Are they good?

An Orlando vacation

December 29, 2006 by Tricia

I bet if I did a poll asking people where they are going for a vacation in the New Year many would tell me that they are going to Florida. Am I right? Why not? Florida, particularly the Orlando area, has many activities for both families and couples, plus the weather is quite pleasant during the winter months. It’s the perfect vacation spot.

I don’t know if we are going to have a vacation this coming year – I hope we do, but you’re talking to someone who’s been married for almost 13 years and hasn’t had a honeymoon yet so I don’t know. If I could talk Chris into it and if I felt well enough I’d love to go to Orlando Florida. What other place in the world has 52 theme parks? beaches, resorts, and inexpensive vacation homes?

I know, perhaps I could take Chris into going to Florida if I managed to book us a room in one of the Orlando Florida Hotels that’s near a golf course? I’m sure he’d love to play golf in Florida. We could also visit Disney World, Universal Studios, The hard Rock cafe – Chris is a huge fan of the Hard Rock and there’s a very big one in Florida.

The idea is sounding more and more appealing. I think I’ve talked myself into it. Now to work on Chris.

Cool Bug Stuff – fun and educational

December 27, 2006 by Tricia

Did you realize that as a reptile owner, you don’t just become the owner of one new and fascinating pet but that you can often become the owner of hundreds of other pets that go along with your pet reptile? “Oh oh what’s she talking about now” you’re probably asking. LOL well, what I mean is, that a number of reptiles need to eat bugs, so when I had my Chinese Water Dragons I had to keep crickets, mealworms and earthworms for them to eat. There were times when I had 1000 Zoophoba (king mealworms), 500 crickets chirping away in special bug keeping containers in my home, as well as a couple of containers of earthworms in my fridge.

When you have to keep those kinds of creatures in your home for your pet you start to become fascinated with their life cycles too, and if you’re like me you start learning about the creepy crawlies. Believe me I’ve written pages and pages of information about bugs on two of my other websites. So when I saw that CoolBugStuff.com was offering an opportunity to write a post about them I jumped on the idea.

CoolBugStuff.com is a website that educates people about bugs. The site is written in a way that a child can understand easily. There’s tons of free information on hundreds if not thousands of bugs, as well as educational resources, and cool bug related educational products. I can easily see teachers visiting this site to find information and or projects to use with their kids in class. Isn’t there always some kind of bug related project in school?

The company sells bug related toys, clothes, books, games, science and bug related kits, and even uhm … edible bugs for the home and classroom. Interesting. Also, if you happen to be in South Florida CoolBugStuff.com does creepy crawly bug Adventure shows for Kindergarten to Grade five classes.

I think this is a great site. One I would have gladly written about here or on my reptile related sites because I find bugs interesting. Oh, I guess I could have written about it on my gardening site too. Bugs are very important to gardeners – some are bad and eat your plants, and others eat the bugs that eat your plants. I’m sure CoolBugStuff.com has that kind of information on their site too – so if you can’t get into bugs simply because they are fascinating creatures, perhaps if you are a gardener, you might find some of the information there useful for your gardening needs. Big hint- look up lady Bugs while you are there.

I could live in Chicago

December 27, 2006 by Tricia

My brother in law will be coming to Toronto / Brantford from Chicago to celebrate New Years with us. I think that he might actually be driving from Chicago tomorrow. It’s going to be a fun time when he arrives! He loves to party.

You might remember that this past August Chris and I drove to Chicago with some friends, well sorta friends, and spent the weekend there. That was a lot of driving just for a weekend trip, but since it was my first time visiting Chicago I didn’t mind. I was excited to go there since I’d heard so much about the city but hadn’t seen it before.

Even though my visit was brief, I left there with no doubt in my mind that I could live there. You see, I found Chicago to be similar in a lot of ways to Toronto. I know it’s not the same, but the hustle and bustle, always having something going on, yeah that’s just like Toronto.

Now, if I was going to move there, or if someone that I knew was moving there I’d tell them to contact the NewCastle Realty Group. They specialize in Chicago Real Estate for the whole 7 county area including the city of Chicago and over 180 surrounding cities. Their agents are said to be extremely helpful, as they help you find homes that meet your criteria and give you information on the populations in the areas you like houses of worship, median income levels, schools, access to transportation or commuting information and other areas of interest close to the area that you are viewing. They will assist you through the entire process of buying your new home, and if necessary assist you with the selling of your current home, recommending local attorneys, mortgage consultants and home inspectors.

You can browse available properties on their website, and look up other helpful information that will teach you more about the process of buying or selling a home. You might even be interested in reading their informative blog as well.

The NewCastle group sounds very much like the company that helped us purchase our home here in Toronto, and if they are anything like the company that helped Chris and I then you’ll be quite pleased with their services.
