Wordless Wednesday
I can’t imagine our Lab puppy Midnight ever being this tiny but she must have been at one point. Aren’t these little puppies the cutest thing?
Random Thoughts about life in general, living in the big city of Toronto

I find that we have seasonal expenses. I’m sure lots of people find that they shop more at Christmas time and that they have hefty bills to pay come January. Our expenses go up at that time too, but I find that we have another spike in our spending in April and May too.
Why? Well … I’m a gardener. Spring is the best time to go out and buy more plants for the garden or order from mail order or online shops. I always find that I buy seeds, bulbs or bare root plants and garden decor around this time. I also often end up with a new garden book or two as well.
One of the sites that I’ve been looking at this year is www.buy.com because they always have the best buy. I just type in garden or gardening in the search box and it brings up interesting garden items and gardening related books. I also check out their front page while I’m there too as they have some amazing weekly deals.
Check out the site if your shopping for something online. You’ll probably save money.

My puppy … you gotta love her … she totally lives for her food.
Back on March 15th we got a new bag of Nutro’s Healthy Choice Lamb and Rice formula dog food for large breed puppies. After we dumped the contents into one of her dog food bins Midnight couldn’t resist looking in the bag to see if we’d forgotten any pieces or crumbs.
I’d cut out a portion of the bag because I wanted to keep the feeding directions. When you have a growing puppy it’s important to know how much you should be feeding them when they reach a certain weight or age range. So there was a small cut out in the bag.
She dove into the bag and ended up wearing it on her head. It was pretty funny and I couldn’t resist taking some pictures.
At least, thanks to photography, I now know exactly how long the second largest bag lasts! We just opened another bag for her last night so one bag lasts approximately one month. Well … we mix it with another dog food – Blue Buffalo Large breed chicken and brown rice for puppies, so I guess if we were only feeding her the one food a bag would only last 15 days. Boy, dogs are expensive!
Whenever I post photos of Midnight people comment on how shiny her coat is and some have asked what we’ve been feeding her. Well now you know – Nutro Healthy Choice Lamb and Rice formula dog food for large breed puppies and Blue Buffalo Large breed chicken and brown rice for puppies.
When we first got her she was pretty sick. She had a bacterial infection in her bowel, roundworms, diarrhea, an eye infection and then an ear infection, dry skin and dandruff. Her coat wasn’t always nice and shiny, but about a month after she came to live with us we started to notice how shiny her fur was becoming. I guess it was one of the first signs that she was getting healthier.
She still has red eyes (and we’re still treating them) and her movements are sometimes still loose so she gets Pepto Bismol every day, but overall she’s a very happy fairly healthy 7.5 month old puppy who’s extremely motivated by food!
Her latest pastime is climbing on the couch and looking out the window or ringing the bell we hung from the front door to go outside.
BTW the window is smudged. She rubs her wet nose on it and licks the window as she watches what’s going on outside.
Do your pets do silly things when you get a new bag of food or even when you are about to feed them? Midnight runs and jumps around the kitchen and whines as we prepare her food. Silly dog.
I have another story and cute picture of Midnight on one of my other blogs if you’re interested.

Spring is a wonderful time to take a vacation isn’t it? I’ve been enjoying spring here in my own city, but I can’t help remembering some of the great spring vacations I’ve taken in the past. Actually now that I think of it, I think I’ve been to Florida in the spring more often than any other place in the world that I’ve vacationed.
The last time I went to Florida for spring vacation was several years ago. It was beautiful. The temperatures were in the 70’s to low 80’s so it was extremely comfortable.
I stayed with some friends in the Tampa and Orlando area. We visited both Tampa, Orlando and several other cities across the State. You see one of my nurse friends had traveled with me to Florida but she was staying in Boca Raton so we went there to spend a day with her and even drove down to Miami and visited the Miami Seaquarium. I guess we spent a lot of time traveling by car, but it was well worth it.
If you’re planning a spring vacation you should visit Trusted Tours & Attractions. They offer discounted tickets to the very best sightseeing tours. You’ll find discounted sight seeing tour tickets as well as some great information for 23 cities across America.
I actually wish I’d known about this companies website when I was looking for things to do in Orlando and other Florida cities. I could have even picked up some discount tickets for not only sight seeing tours but local attractions and I believe hotel rates as well.
If you expect to be going on vacation this spring or perhaps later in the year you might want to sign up for their newsletter. When you sign up for their newsletter before the end of April you’ll be entered in a contest where you could win a hand held system. Isn’t that great?
The newsletter is full of travel tips, interesting stories and links to travel blogs. I’m sure you’ll find it interesting and informative.
Visit the website, I’m sure you’ll find some great travel ideas!

Now that spring is here and I can actually see my garden it’s interesting to look out at it and see what new things have popped up from the ground or how much each new plant has grown. Some seem to grow several inches in a day or so!
I think these are tulips.
The tips of this plant were bright flaming red when we first uncovered them from the leaves that they were buried under.
I think all of the crocus’ in the backyard are blooming now. I planted them in the lawn and near the edges of the garden beds rather than directly in the beds. It looks more natural that way and it’s amazing how pretty they look popping out of the grass as they do:
The way things are speeding along this spring I won’t have long to enjoy the crocus.
Is anything blooming in your garden yet?
