A lot of sound for a mini-speaker – Bassboomz Review

March 8, 2013 by Tricia

I’ve been listening to quite a bit more music lately. It’s not just because I’ve suddenly become interested in new musicians or bands, no, it’s because I’ve been lucky enough to have been given some very cool music related items to review. Do you remember the Bassbuds Earbuds that I was given a couple of months ago? Well the same company that makes them – BassBuds, sent me a BassBoomz mini-speaker and let me tell you, I love it.

Bassboomz

The Bassboomz mini-speaker arrived about a week and a half ago and I’ve been putting it through it’s paces testing it out in various ways. The Bassboomz mini speaker is only 2 inches high but for a mini speaker it can broadcast sound quite a distance. I was quite impressed by both the quality of the sound and it’s volume/depth levels.

The speaker is meant to be used with smartphones, mp3 players, laptops and tablets. I quickly and easily connected my brand new blue Bassboomz speaker to my Nokia smartphone via Bluetooth in a matter of seconds and moments later music was pouring out of the speaker in rich bass tones. The volume was quite loud when it first came on and that really startled me. It also impressed me because I really did not expect this mini speaker to be able to produce such volume. At full volume I’d be able to hear the music playing out of this speaker in my living room from my bedroom upstairs! Mind you I have a small house, but still, that’s loud! Oh and at full volume they say the speakers battery will last about 4 or 5 hours and at 70% of the volume you should get 5 to 7 hours of battery life.

I connected the BassBoomz speaker to my laptop via Bluetooth and it worked seamlessly as well.

The speaker is designed with an innovated Bass Expansion system for an impressive volume to size digital amplifier. This is what gives it those deep rich bass tones. The speaker twists closed for easy transport, but with a simple twist and release the bass expansion system in activated.

If you’re fortunately enough to have two of these lovely wireless mini-speakers you’ll find that you can use two speakers on one device. That’s right, dual connectivity is available. Two times the fun!

I can easily see myself using my BassBoomz in various ways! I’m picturing taking it to the beach this summer or using it outside in the backyard when I’m gardening or just simply spending time on the patio enjoying a beautiful summer day. It’s small enough to easily throw in my purse.

If you’re interested in learning more about the BassBoomz minispeaker visit the BassBuds Website. You might also be pleased to know that you can save 50% off the retail prices of a BassBoomz minispeaker during the month of March by using the voucher code – BBZ649106

The Very Most Exciting Gadgets You Can Buy Today

December 5, 2012 by Trish

I have always loved gadgets and ever since I was a young kid I was always on the lookout for the latest laptop, the latest PDA, and the latest smartphone. As early as I can remember I owned a ZX Spectrum and an Einstein and since then I’ve owned some of the most cutting edge and bizarre phones and computers on the market. Hell, I even owned a Dell Streak and was only one of about 80-something people who bought one.

But to me this still isn’t enough, and while I do get a real sense of excitement when I open the box for my latest boy’s-toy, there are hundreds of things I can think of that would be much more awesome and fun. Here I’ll walk you through a few of the more exciting gadgets that I’ve either owned or pined after that can do more than just help with your everyday routine…

The JetLev

This is a relatively recent one but it’s something that has me instantly drooling. Essentially this is a jetpack that you strap to your back that allows you to fly, only unlike other jetpacks it works by using a powerful jet of water and can only be used over a body of water. That limitation aside this is the closest you can come to feeling like Iron man by hovering and swopping through the air, and it’s something you can guarantee none of your friends will have.

Telescope

A telescope has always been at the top of my ‘badly want’ list, along with space rocket. While I’ve yet to get a space rocket though, my sister recently surprised me with a Newtonian Reflector telescope for my birthday which has enabled me to look at the craters of the moon in crisp detail and even get into astrophotography. It looks like something that belongs at NASA and I’ve been able to see the rings of Saturn – it doesn’t get much more life affirming than that.

The GoPro HERO3 Silver Edition HD Camera

Okay so it’s not the most exciting looking thing in itself – it’s a camera that you mount to a hat – but what you will end up doing with it is awesome. Whether you’re free running across rooftops, or whether you’re hurtling down a mountainside on a mountain bike this will capture all the action from your POV in crisp HD. Great for boasting about your achievements on YouTube.

Powerbocks

This is another one I recently acquired and have been having a lot of fun with – they’re giant stilts with carbon fibre springs attached that let you run up to thirty miles an hour and do flips over cars. Pretty amazing.

Lamborghini Diablo

The number one boy’s toy though is undoubtedly an amazing car. Unfortunately I’m not quite in the wealth bracket to afford one of these beasts, but ever since I first saw one I’ve wanted it. The most exciting gadgets to me are the ones that let you go faster, that turn heads, and that you can climb into with lots of control panels – this ticks all those boxes.

A musical distraction?

September 30, 2012 by Tricia

It seems every weekend I have my head in the books. At least that’s the way it’s been the past month. I suppose until the end of December it will continue that way. As it turns out the two courses I’m taking are quite heavy duty but I will be that much better a nurse when I’ve completed the courses.

It doesn’t help that my abdomen has been acting up since mid-summer though. It’s been worse and worse as each day goes by. My Internist increased my meds last week so I’m now taking the maximum dosage of my Crohn’s meds. I have no where to go from here if it doesn’t start to settle down .. other than much more radical treatments that I probably can’t do or maybe surgery.

As a distraction, tomorrow Chris and I are going to see a friend that has this new musical … well, it’s not an instrument but I guess it’s something that you can use “with” your instruments? It’s called a alesis io dock musicians friend or something like that. Anyone with an iPad can produce, perform and create music with the io Dock using any pro audio gear or any instruments.

As I said I’m not sure how it works, but Chris will figure it out since he’s the musician. It will be interesting to see what new music he creates using this new technology. We don’t have an iPad .. but I know after playing with the io Dock he’ll want to get an iPad and an io dock. I won’t even bet on it because it’s a sure thing.

Ok, time for maybe a tiny rest and then back to putting my head in the books for most of the night. The only time I’ll stop studying is to watch Dexter later. I won’t miss that! Oh and maybe Homeland. Gosh … there’s other good shows on tonight too. Ok, I’m taping them.

Updating and upgrading my blogs

September 2, 2012 by Tricia

I’ve been busy upgrading and working on several of my websites and blogs in the last few days. I’ve even been writing in a few of the blogs that I haven’t written in for quite a while. Believe it or not I think I have the blogging bug again.

I feel like writing for the first time in a long time. I mean writing with enthusiasm. It feels good.

I’m on so much of a roll that I even created a Google Plus page for this blog. Yes it finally has it’s own page! Yeah! It’s pretty bare at this time, but I’d love it if people would follow it. I promise to fill it up soon and hopefully make it interesting.

I’m actually posting at this ungodly hour of almost 3 a.m. because I’m testing something. I discovered that if I run my RSS feed through HootSuite to my Google Plus page I can send my blog posts directly to my Tricia’s Musings Google Plus Page. So this post is a trial to see if it really works. I fully expect that it will. If you’re curious to find out for yourself if it did go visit my page and find out if this post appears on it.

In the next few days I think this site will also be getting a make over. It needs a new look and feel. It’s dated. I have several premium WP themes and I’m just trying to select which one to use on this site. I’m more than ready for a change.

I hope everyone is having a nice long weekend!

I want and iPad but I don’t need one

December 6, 2011 by Tricia

I keep seeing advertisements for iPads and I can’t help myself – I want one. I’m sure that I really don’t need one. My laptop keeps me busy enough … but oh with the iPad I’d be all the more mobile, it’d be so much more easy to move around and play on the internet. Or so it seems.

Of course, once I start looking online at actual iPads and see the prices and then start adding up all the accessories that I’d probably want to get for it I end up talking myself out of getting one. I mean, just trying to decide between ipad cases alone is mind boggling! LOL

I’m sure I’ll have an iPad or some future version someday, but at this point I just can’t justify the purchase. Of course if I suddenly come into a lot of extra money or something well … maybe …

Do you have an iPad or have you been toying with the idea of getting one?
