My site’s worth what?!?!?

May 15, 2010 by Tricia

Ha … A few years ago I set up Google alerts for all of my husband and I’s websites and blogs. An alert just came in for this blog – Feverishthoughts.com from a website called Yandalo.com estimating this domains worth at $110,486.36!

Hmmm I’m not quite sure I believe that. I have six subdomains on this domain which means there are seven sites associated with this domain in all and while they all have page rank, and very good site traffic as well as a combined low Alexa score I’m not sure the domain is worth that much.

Still it’s kind of cool to see an estimated value like that.

Maybe I’d better start taking my daily multivitamin and work harder on my sites so that someday they really might be worth that much!

Have you ever checked any of the sites that estimate the value of a domain out to see how much your site is worth? If you have do you think the site under or over estimated the value of your site?

I can’t wait for WordPress 3.0 to come out

April 27, 2010 by Tricia

I can’t wait for the new WordPress version to come out. WordPress 3.0 is apparently due to come out sometime in May and if everything I’ve read about it is true it’s going to make my life a lot easier!

The feature I’m most looking forward to is the ability to update multiple blogs at once. They’re incorporating WordPress MU into the new WP 3.0 which means, I believe, if you have more than one WordPress blog you’ll be able to update all your blogs to the latest WP version at the same time, and you’ll also be able to update all of your plugins across your blogs at once as well. It’ll be like WordPress on enzyte LOL.

At least I hope it works the way I’ve explained above. It sounds like it will, but I guess I’ll have to wait and see when it comes out.

As usual I won’t be updating all of our blogs to the newest version until it’s been out for at least two weeks. I made the mistake about a year ago of doing a big update on all my blogs to a new version of WordPress the day it came out and whichever version that was (2.8 I think ) it was kind of buggy and it messed up my sites until the next update came along.

Do you have more than one blog using WordPress? If so, are you looking forward to WordPress 3.0 as well?

It’s been a busy few weeks!

April 1, 2010 by Tricia

I’ve had a busy couple of weeks! I guess that’s one of the major reasons why I haven’t been writing all that much.

1. Our terrible renter neighbors moved out on the 19th of March. This was after a terrible week or so of cars parking in our driveway at all ours of the night and tensions going up and up. It’s certainly a relief to see them gone!

2. As I mentioned in earlier posts I had pneumonia – probably thanks to having two bad colds in a row. So that slowed me down and made it hard for me to get anything done.

3. Then I got knocked out my that aural migraine last week. The next day I happened to have an appointment with a neurologist to see what was going on with my numb thigh (it’s a compressed nerve in my hip that’s causing that awful burning sensation!) so I mentioned to him that my migraines had been getting worse and that I was starting to have lots of visual symptoms so now he’s sending me for an MRI and made some suggestions as to how i can try to combat the migraines without adding more medications to my already huge amount of daily meds that I have to take. Did you know that 300 mg of Magnesium a day might help migraines? I didn’t – but I’m trying it out. I’ll let you know if it helps.

Oh and before I can get my MRI I have to have my eye sockets xrayed. Why? Well if you’ve ever had an MRI they always ask if you’ve had metal in your eyes and unfortunately my answer is always yes. I used to be a jeweller. A Diamond cutter to be specific – which means I cut designs in gold with a fast spinning diamond. Naturally that caused tiny pieces of gold to fly around and even though I always wore goggles sometimes a tiny piece of gold would get inside the goggles and stick in my eye. This would result in my blindly making my way down several flights of stairs in the Jewelry building that I worked in in downtown Toronto to see an optometrist who would then pull the pieces of gold out of my eyes. I’m pretty sure that I don’t have gold in my eyes anymore – but it’s best to check before I have an MRI of my head.

4. The other big thing that’s kept me busy in the last three weeks is that I’ve been editing every single page of my reptile care page. I had an offer from Google Adsense to optimize one of my websites so I’ve been working with a really nice guy from Google, even had a phone consultation with him, and I’ve been slowing working his suggestions into my huge HTML based website. Do you know how long it takes to edit every single page of a huge HTML website? Forever! LOL

Between being sick, stressed and doing a huge amount of work on one of my sites I feel like I’ve been on a treadmill in the last few weeks.

Hopefully things settle down and get back to normal again soon!

Our power if flickering on and off

March 12, 2010 by Tricia

Ahh! What’s up with all the power outages today! It’s making it hard for me to get any work done.

My husband called me from work about an hour ago to ask if the power was out here at the house. I guess it’s out at the hospital just down the street where he is (thank god for emergency power). I told him that it was fine.

I think I spoke too soon. Shortly after he called our power flicked on and off and then a few minutes later it did it again. It’s happened about five times now. It keeps knocking out my router too, so if I want to use the internet I have to keeping going over to our router and modem, unplug them for a few minutes and plug them back in to get connect.

If this keeps up I’ll have to put the router on disability insurance LOL.

It’s raining and kind of windy here in Toronto this afternoon … maybe that’s messing up some transformer? Or maybe our power is flicking on and off now due to whatever the problem is a few blocks away at the hospital.

Don’t you just hate it when the power keeps going on and off?

PC Mac and online games for Christmas

November 30, 2009 by Tricia

My husband and I will be starting our Christmas shopping this week. We aren’t going to be going all out this year, simply because we can’t afford it, but we’ll still get some gifts for the kids in the family and a few close relatives. One idea that we came up with was to possibly buy some PC, Mac or online games as gifts.

I haven’t played many online or PC games in the last few years, well, with the exception of an online puzzle and a Mahjong game that I play every once in a while. So I’m trying to figure out which games would be good for teenagers and younger kids? Any suggestions?

I was looking online and games such as Princess Isabella – a Witch’s Curse, City Lights, Zuma’s Revenge, Luxor Adventures, Trapped and Campfire Legends seem to be interesting games that I think my nieces and nephews might like. They’d certainly make good stocking stuffers!

Another idea that I had was to possibly buy some memberships at an online game website, that way the recipients could easily play online games or buy games that they like for a discounted price. They could even download games right to their computer – games like Amazing Adventures The Caribbean Secret, Avenue Flo or Big City Adventure.

Have you ever thought of gifting someone an online gaming membership? I think at least two of our nephews would love that as a gift.
