Safe computing – get antivirus protection

January 16, 2007 by Tricia

I find that a number of people come to me when they have questions about their computer. Often this occurs when a problem as developed. I’ve learned overtime that one of the first questions that I should always ask is- Do you have antivirus software on your computer?

Unbelievably in this day and age when huge denial of service attacks on big companies like Yahoo.com and Google.com commonly make the news, these people often tell me that they don’t have antivirus software on their computers. Why not? With all the spam we get and websites set up to load Trojan worms onto our computers when we view a site or open an email I can’t understand why anyone would leave themselves vulnerable to leaving their computer and precious data open to that risk. Don’t they know that if a virus attack is bad enough it could wipe out their whole computer leaving the information on their hard drive useless and almost impossible to retrieve?

I always recommend that they get an anti-virus software package immediately so that they can check their computer for virus, Trojans and even spyware that might be affecting their computers performance. It’s so easy! Just click here and you can have a Norton Antivirus Download. It’s that simple. Why risk your computers data?

I use Norton Antivirus myself and I find it very easy to use. I’ve set it up to monitor my browsing and my email as it comes in, and to be on the safe side I have it scan my whole computer once a week. I haven’t had a single problem since I’ve been using Norton Antivirus. If you’d like to learn more about Norton Antivirus I suggest that you read Norton Internet Security 2007 articles and other info: and make your decision after viewing all of the information on that page.

I can usually fix computers for them, but what kills me is that most of the time, if they had antivirus software on their computer in the first place I wouldn’t have to.

Why does your kid close their browser all the time?

December 27, 2006 by Tricia

Have you ever walked into a room where your child is sitting at the computer and noticed that they suddenly shut down their browser or minimized it as you approached? I bet that’s happened. Heck it might even happen on occasion with your spouse too!

What would you think if I told you that SpectorSoft, has produced a software that would let you know what types of things your child has been looking at when they are on the computer? Doesn’t that sound like a great form of computer monitoring? Kids know all kinds of way to get around “parental” software that blocks them from viewing sites, but if you had software on your computer that monitored their keystrokes you’d be able to tell what types of things they talked about online during IM conversations – and you’d be able to make sure that they weren’t talking to someone that they shouldn’t be talking to, such as an adult pretending to be a teen. The monitoring program also lists the sites that are visited. If you discovered that your child was going to sites that you disapproved of, then you could use your parental software to block those sites.

Software, such as SpectorSofts, Keystroke monitoring software could give you peace of mind if you are worried about what your children are doing on the computer and it can help you keep them safe.

Is your boss late giving you reviews?

December 17, 2006 by Tricia

My old boss was always terribly late when she gave yearly updates. She was the most disorganized person I’ve ever seen in my life. If she was still my boss I give her a copy of this Performance Rev1ew Software that I just found. It’s fantastic. Well I think it would have been.

Anyone who is managing anywhere from a few or more people would find this software helpful as it helps a manager track, evaluate and control the behavior, performance and activities of their employees. Rather than keeping all the employee information in files or various systems, a manager could keep all of the information they need in one place on their computer. Just that alone would simplify things for most bosses.

What else can a manager do with this software? Well they could track employee attendance, tardiness, missed hours, absences, employee incidents, schedule employee training sessions and expenses, plus many many more things. Actually I think it sounds like this software could track or help you organize just about any kind of information regarding your employees that you’d want it to.

Bluebox image compression software

December 14, 2006 by Tricia

I just came across and interesting new product called BlueBox. The company says “If you have a digital camera you need this product.” . Alright – I guess I’m one of the people that need this product. What does it do?

It’s a software product that lets you compress and encrypt images and text. The Bluebox software can compress over 480 different types of image formats including the most popularly used ones like JPEG, TIFF, and BMP. It will compress the files up to 95%.

Why would this come in handy? Well, I don’t know if you’re like me, but when you take a photo digitally you might set your camera to take the best quality photo that it can. Have you ever noticed the file sizes on those photos once you load them onto your computer? Yeah, their huge, 1 or 2 MB or more. Run them through photoshop and add some special effects to the photos and they only getting larger in file size unless you end up making the image smaller.

Again, if you’re like me, once you’ve fiddled with your photos you want someone to see them, so you send them to friends and relatives by email or upload them onto free photo display sites like flickr etc. It can take forever to send an email with a large file in it … and to make matters worse, if the person to whom you are sending the photo too has a small or fairly full mailbox sometimes they don’t end up getting the photo at all because their inbox couldn’t accept it because the email was too large.

It’s frustrating isn’t it?

Well that’s what BlueBox has come along to solve. Simple compress your photos or large text based files prior to sending them to someone via email or uploading them onto a site and TADA the file size is drastically reduced and much easier to transmit.

You can save up to 20 times more data on your hard drive and memory devices when using this compression software. Also, the compression technology doesn’t alter your original image. It’s easy to use too. Just drag and drop your images into BlueBox and they’ll be compressed to a fraction of their original size, and stored in a secure and encrypted box. Learn more about this amazing new software program at the BlueBox website.

Group calls- talk with several friends on the phone at once

December 1, 2006 by Tricia

Do your relatives ever call you from work, and then perhaps connect you with another relative while your talking so that you end up having a family conference call? One of my brothers has been doing that on and off for the last fifteen years or so. He’s used this method of family conference call between my parents, himself and one or more of our siblings to help us solidify plans for the holidays or an upcoming trip. We’ve even used it when someone in the family has become seriously ill.

I’ve always envied the fact that he could do that so easily. However, now thanks to Foonz (pronounced “phones”) I don’t have to envy him anymore because I can make group calls myself.

Foonz is a new service that lets the average individual make a group call from any phone. Not only that, but it’s free to use as only your normal phone minutes will apply. So for example if you are making a local group call it’s going to be totally free, and if you are calling a group of people living in another city or Country then only the normal long distance charges that your phone company would charge you would apply.

It’s easy to start a group call at anytime with no need to pre plan. People get invited to your group call via a text message to their cell phone, IM or email. Plus along with having no additional fees, you’ll also find that there is no advertising and Foonz won’t sell your information to others either. Sounds good?

So how exactly does it work? Well, first you need to
sign up for free at the foonz web site. Once you’re signed up you can great a contact list on the Foonz website, setting up groups of contacts. The groups would be people that you would want to talk with at the same time on a call. For example I might set up a Foonz contact group that consists of my sister and three brothers.

Once you’ve set up your contact list and groups you can telephone Foonz to start a group call. You’ll get the number for Foonz when you register with the company. When you are connected to Foonz, Foonz will tell you how to begin a group call. When you initiate the call Foonz sends out the messages to everyone in the group via text message to their cell phone, IM or email.

The members of your contact list that are invited to the group call will receive a phone number from Foonz, and when the group members call that number they are automatically joined up with you and any other group members who have connected. If someone that you’ve invited can’t join the call you’ll be able to leave a message for them.

I can see a number of people being interested in using this service. Parents and family members calling a student that’s studying away from home or abroad. Students calling each other to talk online and perhaps even study together on the phone, or just friends and relative chatting on a regular basis. Perhaps you don’t call distant relatives very often because of the expense, but just think, if you could call several at once in a group call you’d probably call them more often wouldn’t you? There’s just so many possibilities.

Check out the Foonz site for yourself to learn more if you are interested in this service. I think I’m going to try it out. Hey- a group of blogger friends could talk regularly too. That would be useful!
