Welcoming Rough Draft

March 7, 2006 by Tricia

Well, it was really tough to choose just one renter for the week, but as my bidders know I can only choose one.

This weeks roomie is:

Rough Draft by DC Roe – Written by a talented aspiring writer, who is currently working on his first novel. His latest post discusses his disappointment with the lack of common courtesy displayed by many. I agree with many of the points in his latest posting. Visit his site and see if you agree with his point of view or if you might be one of the people he’s talking about.

The other contestants in the bid to rent my meager space were:

Nonsensical Flounderings – Great site! Mik & Carolyn write about their day to day life in an entertaining manner. Worth a Visit. Nice layout too! Oh, they’ve just moved into their new domain. Go read their latest post- it’s really shitty!

Haunted House Dressing – Jeremy Shipp – Wow, what a site. You could sit there all day reading and visiting all the various links contained in his posts. You probably need to do that to get an idea of how his mind works. 🙂 And what an interesting mind it is. There’s everything but the kitchen sink- including Finger Puppet Comics (hilarious!). I think I might just go spend the evening over there when I’m done this post.

NewfieGirl – Hey, a fellow Canadian! This seems to be NewfieGirl’s personal page. Great writing. Her latest dilemma is the older ladies that are oogling her husband and plying him with cheesecake. Go find out how she solves her dilemma.

It’s been nice Cat!

March 5, 2006 by Tricia

The time has come to say good bye to Cat from LWMP She’s been a great tenant, but she’ll be moving out in 5 hours and I’ll be looking for a new flat mate to share my lovely space. 🙂

It looks like my visitors liked her too! Cat is my first renter on this relatively young site (started in January) and I think she’s had some success:

So far this week:

Hits Unique Hits Clicks Unique Clicks

1022 514 14 12

… and there’s still 5 hours to go! Visit her while she’s still living here. 🙂

(update- in the end Cat got 16 clicks, 14 of which were unique. That’s pretty good)

Thursday Thirteen Take #1

March 2, 2006 by Tricia

Thirteen Things about Tricia
1…. I hate Mondays! And Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and even Sundays, IF they are the start of my work week, that is. You see I work shift work as a nurse, so whichever day is the First day of my work week- well, it’s a Monday to me, even if it isn’t.2….I love reptiles. No, not the human kind … really, the reptile kind. I’ve been keeping reptiles of one kind or another since I was a kid. Check out my main site if you don’t believe me!

3…. Speaking of Reptiles- I just had an offer to write an article for Reptiles USA magazine! Whoohoo! If it goes through this will be my 5th article for a magazine.

4…. I also love my garden. When I was a child we always had a flower and vegetable garden in the back yard, and two veggie gardens up at the cottage. My job was to pull the weeds! Yuck! I thought I hated gardening. Skip forward to 4.5 years ago when we purchased our house and what’s one of the first things I do? I design a beautifully landscaped garden. It’s where I go to relax. I must have done a good job of it too because people just walk in off the street to have a look. Makes me proud but it’s kind of creepy having strangers walk into your yard as well.

5….Photography. Well that goes right along with my love of gardening and reptiles- doesn’t it? I mean I gotta take great pictures of my pretty flowers and my pets, don’t I? Expect to see the occasional garden photo on this site. I also have some pretty cool pictures of Toronto and the surrounding area.

6…. I have the best husband in the world. Yeah he’s a talkaholic (see wandering husband post), and he can be messy at times, but he’s a good one. I think I’ll keep him.

7…. I’m a klutz! If there is a great big hole in front of me you can pretty much guarantee that I’ll fall in it. In fact I did just that, last summer! Much to my friends amusement. I fall up a staircase- not down it, I trip over my own feet and other peoples! I’m not as bad as I used to be, I guess I’ve learned how to hide my klutziness over the years, but when I do a klutz move you can bet it’s a doozy!

8…. I moved to Toronto to become a professional make-up artist and got side tracked along the way and became a jeweler instead. By jeweler I don’t mean selling jewelery- I mean making it, as in working in the Jewelery trade. For a time I was the first and only female diamond cutter in North America. When the recession hit in the early 90’s I moved on career wise.

9…. While I was a jeweler I completed my Make-up artist certificate and also got my special effects make up certificate. Everyone calls me at Halloween, I wonder why??? LOL I never did either job professionally though.

10…. Wow, I was a busy, busy girl back then. I also tried to become an actress while I was a jeweler. It was a life long dream and how I originally became interested in becoming a make up artist in the first place. I did a lot of extra work on films and commercials and got a few roles over the years, but I never did well enough to close down my business and pursue it full time. It was pretty interesting though.

11…. While I worked in the jewelery trade I met a lot of interesting and often very wealthy people. First let me tell you that the majority of people that work inside the trade are not originally from North America, most are from Europe (Russia) or the middle east. There are very few women in the trade so I guess I stood out. I was proposed to approximately 13 times by different men. One man asked me to marry him every time he came to my shop- and he was serious! Talk about pressure! Oh and the advice I got from my friends wasn’t really helpful at all- they advised me to marry for money. Sorry no- I just couldn’t do that. Nope- I wanted to marry for love. Oh did I tell you that my husband was also a jeweler? So in the end I did marry for love after all, ain’t that sweet? But I’m not rich- my husband wasn’t one of the wealthy suitors. Oh well!

12….I guess I’m on my third career now. I’m an emergency department nurse now. Busy busy busy, but I love it. I don’t know why I was complaining about Mondays at the beginning of this post though. I’ve been off work for more than 3 months due to illness and right now I think I would gladly work on a Monday. I’m kind of bored and I miss the quirky place. Once I get back to work I’m sure I’ll have some funny ER stories to tell all of you.

13…. And to wrap this up? My favorite things- Chocolate! The smell of wild flowers- especially lavender, jasmine and passion flower. Oh I love the smell of Vanilla too. The sound of running water- no not a toilet or from a tap … I mean a water fall or waves hitting the shore silly!

The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Visiting fellow Thirteeners is encouraged! If you participate, leave the link to your Thirteen in others comments. It’s easy, and fun! Be sure to update your Thirteen with links that are left for you, as well! I will link to everyone who participates and leaves a link to their 13 things. Track backs, pings, comment links accepted!

Are you Brave?

March 1, 2006 by Tricia

Brave

Have you done anything that others might consider brave today? This week? This year? 🙂 Leave a comment and let me know what you did.

Hmmm Brave things I’ve done recently … let me see …

1. Does telling your doctor that your getting no where with him, and that you want a second opinion (one he’s been promising since last April!) count as being brave? If I does I did that on Tuesday!

2. How about putting my sites up for rent? Which means I’m asking others to decide if my pages are good enough to be displayed on their sites for a week? Ok, that’s not all that brave, but hey I want to rent my place out. Pick me! Pick me! Take my credits please! LOL

Alright! So it hasn’t been all that challenging of a week so far. Give me time. In the meantime I’d love to hear what you’ve done that you consider brave.

Off to work on a header for this site … gotta Jazz it up a bit.

Say hello to my renter

February 27, 2006 by Tricia

I’m renting space for the first time and I’d like to welcome my very first renter “Living with Multiple Personalities” She has some very interesting stories and life experiences to write about and her page is always entertaining. 🙂 She also updates regularly, sometimes several times in one day so it’s worth checking her site at least daily.

I enjoy her site and I’m glad she chose to become my tenant.

So come on, what are you waiting for? Go visit her site! It’s worth the trip.
