Stressed and tired? That’s me

July 24, 2007 by Tricia

I’m feeling kind of wiped out today. Actually I was feeling that way yesterday too.

I think I’m still fighting the flu that my husband had last week – I think I’ve had a touch of it, but no where near as bad as he had it. Which of course I’m thankful for since I have Crohns and if I got the flu as bad as he did I’d probably end up in the hospital!

Also, all the stress of my sites being down – writing to two web hosting companies and waiting for replies from support which can take hours and hours wore me down too.

I really am pleased that my sites are finally working again though. Now, if I could get some decent rest I’ll be ready for anything again!

Actually I have some built up work for advertisers that I’m going to spend the evening working on. I might just take a tiny rest first though so my head will be clearer and with any luck my posts will be better.

I’m back – did you miss me?

July 24, 2007 by Tricia

I’m back!

Well ok I’ve always been here, but I’ve spent the last few days staring at the same “account suspended” or “this site can’t be reached” message that you have see if you’ve attempted to visit any of my or my husbands sites since sometime Saturday morning.

I’ve had some terrible hosting problems over the last month. My “Former” web host was telling me that I had CPU resource issues and I spent a good portion of the last month trying my darnedest to figure out what might have been causing the problem.

If I had a problem I feel that I likely fixed it, however I’m not sure I ever did after what that company did to me on Sunday! They set up a VPS hosting account because I’d agreed to temporarily move to Virtual private hosting until I could fix my problem. I said to them several times that the move was temporary so I only wanted a monthly account.

What did they do? They set up a two year package that cost close to $650!

When I got in touch with Lunarpages on Monday – the only time I could talk to a real person since they don’t offer telephone support on the weekend, I got that stupid bill sorted out and reverse and totally canceled my account.

If they can’t read support email that says “No, no don’t set that. I want more information first” in reply to their $75 per hour service charge to move my account from shared hosting to VPS hosting, and then making the mistake? of billing me for two years, and then not saying sorry or trying to even cover for themselves by saying it was a mistake … well no, I don’t want to do business with that kind of company.

I’m still going to go carefully over my sites to make sure that I don’t have a CPU resource issue, but in the meantime I’ve moved to what appears to be a good web hosting company – Host Gator – and my sites should be running smoothly from here on in.

I apologize to anyone who’s been waiting for me to write a post about their site or company during this time period. I will be working on all past requests shortly.

Now if I can just figure out how to get my primary domain out of the url of my other domains I’ll be happy. I think I’ve got to take a look at the redirects on my domains. Grrr

FusedNetwork offers several web hosting options

July 20, 2007 by Tricia

I think that just about everyone who’s stopped by to read this blog or a couple of my other blogs in the last few weeks knows I’ve been having some serious issues with my current web host.

I’m currently looking for a new web hosting company so that I can perhaps put half the domains/sites I own on the new hosting site to split up my accounts and their load on shared web hosting servers. Hey – it might work – for a while anyway.

Having said that I’ve been taking a serious look at a number of web hosting companies. FusedNetwork.com is said to have Quality Web Hosting. Let’s see what they have to offer shall we?

They have four different shared hosting accounts. Shared hosting is when your account is placed on the same server as a number of other accounts. Shared hosting is pretty much all that the average individual website owner or blogger needs if their site has low to moderate traffic levels.

Each shared hosting account offered by FusedNetwork offers a certain amount of diskspace to store your files, a certain amount of transfer (this tallies how much traffic your site can have per month), e-mail accounts, subdomains, MySQL databases, and FTP accounts. The amounts of each of the above varies with each account.

For example, the hosting packages are numbered, #1 offers a website owner 1024 mb of diskspace, 10GB transfer, 100 email accounts, 25 subdomains, 3 MySQL databases and 10 FTP accounts for the low cost of $9.95 per month or $107.46 per year. The highest priced shared account, #4 offers all of the above but in larger amounts for the price of $19.95 per month or $215.46 per year.

Setup is absolutely free for all of the shared accounts.

The shared hosting packages come with all of the standard extras which include C-panel for easy management of your account, directories and domains, web stat packages, script support such as PHP, and mail packages.

FusedNetwork doesn’t seem to offer Virtual Private Hosting (VPS) but they do offer 3 different Dedicated server packages that range in price from $200 to $400 per month.

The company seems dedicated to offering quality service and support.

One thing I like to find when I’m looking at a hosting company is a forum. You can learn a lot by reading a hosting forum prior to purchasing an account. You can also ask pre-sale questions on a forum as well if you have any concerns that haven’t been answered on the sites pages.

Visited FusedNetwork.com and see which package might suite your needs if you’ve been looking for your first or a new web host.

Starting a Hosting company is easier than ever

November 23, 2006 by Tricia

Have you ever thought of starting your own hosting company? Perhaps you are using a free hosting blog service right now but you’ve been thinking of taking the big step of using a hosting site and purchasing your own domain? Why not take it one step further by doing that and starting your own hosting company?

Hosterio makes it easy to set up your own Reseller Web Hosting business. Put it this way, to start your own hosting company you need a Hosting website, a way to charge your clients such as a billing Manager to manage your clients, orders and enabling you to accept online orders, a support ticketing Manager to provide support to your clients, a merchant Account, and a Reseller Hosting Package. The good news is that the first four items in the list of what you need are included when you choose your Reseller hosting package.

It’s that easy. Every single thing you need is in the Reseller hosting package. All you have to do is choose which type of reseller package you’d like.

The lowest priced package gives you 500 MB of disk space and 5000 MB of data transfer and 5 domain/accounts with a private label, plus all of the features that your clients will need from email accounts to c-panel to control their own websites and domains, all for only $77.77 US per year. The highest priced package offers you 10000 MB disk space, and 75000 MB of data transfer, and an unlimited number of Domain/accounts for the low price of only $242.22 US per year. All accounts come with 24/7 support.

As some of you know I’m starting a part time web designing business and getting my own hosting Reseller account might be something that would be beneficial to my company and clients in the future. The prices and features that hosterio sound pretty good to me.

Not amused

July 30, 2006 by Tricia

No, I am not amused at all. When I turned on my computer this morning and loaded my sites in my browser this is what greeted me:

lostdomain

My domain triciaswaterdragon.com, the one that is home to my popular website that has had over 10 million visitors in the last almost 11 years, was up for renewal on July 27th. My hosting company told me they would automatically renew it for me when I asked about it at the beginning of June.

You know when they renewed it? This morning.

Some idiot must have snapped it when it floated free into the world of domain names and registrars. They probably hoped I would come crawling to them and buy it off them for a high price. Idiots!

I wrote to my hosting company as soon as I discovered that my domain was no longer mine. It had been there early this morning at about 6 a.m. after all. They wrote back stating that they were aware of the “mistake” and that they were already in the process of fixing it. I don’t know what they did, maybe they had to buy it back themselves. Either way it’s back.

I just about had a heart attack when I saw the gun registry page though. As I stated in my last post I wrote and article for Reptiles USA annual edition and it’s going to be on the stands August 1st. I’m expecting a lot of new visitors to my site as of this coming week. All I could think of when I realized that I had lost my domain was that all those people would be greeted by a gun registery site. Arghhh.

On top of that …

My husband is working this weekend. But at noon the front door opened and in walked Chris. He had spent a good portion of the morning in the emergency department as a patient due to dizziness, chest pain and extreme sweating.

He had all of these symptoms several times a day for about 8 months two years ago. At the time they thought he had a rare heart arrhythmia called Brugada syndrome. It was thought to be the kind of arrhythmia that could cause sudden death. So he was admitted to the hospital and had a ton of tests to try to see if they could reproduce the symptoms. If they could, they would have a diagnosis and he’d end up with a defibrillator installed in his chest.

They couldn’t reproduce the symptoms but they were sure that something had happened with his heart because he had, and still has, permanent ecg (EKG) changes.

He hasn’t had any bad symptoms for about a year so this was a surprise. Right now he’s lying on the couch relaxing but he’s doing better than the last time he had these symptoms.

I guess our bad luck is continuing.
