The scoop

by Tricia

Paris Hilton and Britney Spears have become BFF.

The pair have been inseparable over the last week or so, but they do spend some time apart.

For instance, Britney partied with Paris’ good friend Brandon Davis on Wednesday night at the Roosevelt Hotel, but Paris decided to have a calmer evening and slummed it while wearing a mis-matched tracksuit with chipped black nail varnish. Oh Dear! Paris has told photographers about her new friendship saying “I love her. She is the sweetest girl I know. She’s so down-to-earth. I just want her to smile and be happy.”

Mean while, actor Jude Law has said that it was a pleasure to work with Cameron Diaz while filming their new movie The Holiday. He said recently: “Having Cameron around is like having the sun on set every day. She understands that kind of film so well. I learned a great deal just by watching her.” The film premiered in London and New York this week.

The divorce between Charlie Sheen and his now Ex- wife Denise Richards has ended quietly even though it started off badly and loudly. The couple still must resolve custody issues for their two daughters – Sam 2 yrs old, and Lola age 1.

Madonna not daunted by adoption challenge

by Tricia

Madonna will not be daunted by an imminent challenge to her Malawian adoption of a young boy. She insists that she has “no problem” with the legal action. A judge in the baby David Banda’s homeland ruled that his 18 month interim adoption could be challenged bya coalition of 67 human rights groups.

Members of the human rights coalition claim the Malawian government fast tracked the adoption process for the singer and her husband Guy Ritchie, and state that intra-country adoptions are not allowed in the African nation.

Madonna’s Malawian lawyer Alan Chinula says, “They, Madonna and Ritchie, called me from London and I explained to them the ruling. They have no problem with the ruling and are also willing to sit back and wait.”

He added of the coalition’s suit, “It’s good for the law. Let’s build the law, let the court hear other views. It’s not Madonna using an antiquated law, we followed the law to the letter in the adoption process, but it’s just a bad law.”

Stephen Colbert opens Museum

by Tricia

Stephen Colbert is giving back to The Nation. He’s helping to revitalize one of America’s depressed communities by offering them the opportunity to house the “Stephen Colbert Museum and Gift Shop.”

This multi-part celebration will air on Comedy Central’s Emmy-nominated “The Colbert Report” during the week of November 27 at 11:30 p.m.

Stephen has chosen rural Tuscumbia (pop: 9,000) in Alabama’s Colbert County as the location for the “Stephen Colbert Museum and Gift Shop.” He is convinced that it will provide a “can’t-miss” economic jolt for the community.

The “Stephen Colbert Museum and Gift Shop” is the world’s first museum entirely devoted to a celebration of Stephen Colbert. After all, since the county named itself after him (at least that’s what Stephen thinks), it’s the least he can do in return.

Over the course of the week, “The Colbert Report” will feature exclusive behind-the-scenes segments detailing the challenges involved in opening this tribute to himself, as well as a look at his primary competition for the hearts and souls (and cash) of Colbert County which is Ivy Green, the birthplace of Tuscumbia native Helen Keller.

Mariah Carey donates Fur to Charity and causes uproar

by Tricia

Mariah Carey donated a $7,500 fur coat to help Mongolia’s poor, but the coat has disappeared and animal rights activists are upset.

The coat was donated by Carey to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) which told Reuters it had since been lost on its way to Mongolia, where it was to be given to nomads to help them keep warm in the winter. Each year, PETA distributes hundreds of cast-off furs to help clothe the homeless and refugees.

In Mongolia, PETA hires impoverished women to cut donated fur coats into narrow strips. The strips are then handed over to nomad families who use them to make the inner linings of their traditional winter coats.

Carey, 36, whose commercial success has not translated into awards show acclaim, was snubbed at the American Music Awards on Tuesday, despite scoring three nominations.
