Anna Nicole Smith was laid to rest on Friday afternoon. The drama that surrounded her life will not end with the memorial that was held in the Bahamas, yet her page in this saga has finally ended.
The funeral was said to be a relatively tasteful and somber affair.
Dare I say that the most gawdy and outrageous thing at her funeral was the pink satin and rhinestone studded blanket that draped her casket.
Anna was laid to rest beside her beloved son Daniel- just as many had assumed was her final wish. Among the attendees at the funeral were Howard K. Stern – who currently has custody of Anna Nicoles 5 month old baby Dannielynn, Anna’s mother Virgie Arthur and former friend Larry Birkhead who’s currently contesting the paternity of little Dannielynn.
The three main players in the custody battle for baby Dannielynn appeared to get along as Anna’s funeral service took place. Smith was laid to rest in a mahogany coffin that had been draped in a rhinestone-studded pink blanket. Police maintained order.
The majority of onlookers were Bahamians, and they spontaneously broke into the hymn Peace like a Lily River as the white hearse carry Smiths body arrived at Lakeview memorial Gardens.
There was apparently a last minute bid to halt the burial as Arthur sought to have the Supreme Court Justice Anita Adams grant her client custody of Smiths body. The Bahamian judge denied the request.
Onlookers cheered when Birkhead got out of his limousine.
There was tight security at the gravesite as guests attended the services which were held under a green tent.
Anna Nicole was said to have been buried in a tiara and custom made beaded gown.
