John Mayer does stand up?

by Tricia

john_mayer180.jpg Singer songwriter John Mayer apparently has a sense of humor. This past Saturday night he did a stand-up comedy routine.

He performed at New York City’s Comedy Cellar where he poked fun at his single life, his music and sang a raunchy ballad as a joke about Carrie underwood’s hit “Before He Cheats”. Mayer also went on to say that male song writers can’t get as aggressive in their songs as females can. He then went on to make up a raunchy little song about sex.

At one point in his routine he said “I don’t wash my clothes to make them cleaner, I wash them to make them tighter – that’s what makes me single,” he says, leaning against the basement comedy club’s brick wall. “Guys, I don’t have a washer-dryer, I have a wetter-tightener.”

Mayer and Jessica Simpson are still in “on again, off again” mode. Jessica was spotted without Mayer in New York on Monday night at restaurant Dos Caminos in Soho.

Actually, if you want to see his routine, I went searching for the video, here it is:

Paula Abdul woman of the year?

by Tricia

paulaabdul.jpg
Paula Abdul has been named woman of the year by the Nevada Ballet Theatre. Huh? Have they been watching TV in the last week or listening to the news? She’s been doing some pretty whacky stuff.

During her acceptance speech Paula decided to do a little comedy by poking fun at a strange pre-Idol inteview with a local Seattle TV station earlier this month. Yes, that’s the whackiness to which I was referring … “Don’t ever give a swivel stool to someone who’s very hyper and active because I will spin and spin and spin.”

“I couldn’t do it without the three men in my life,” she said of fellow Idol stars Randy Jackson, Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest, who flanked her. “Every time Randy Jackson opens up his mouth, I look like a Nobel Prize winner. Every time Simon Cowell opens his mouth, Borat sounds like a Nobel Prize winner….. Ryan, I really do love him; almost as much as he loves himself ..These three brothers are the best thing a girl can hope for, just ask my therapists.”

That was some acceptance speech there Paula.

Dreamgirls is a Hit

by Tricia

dream2t.jpg Dreamgirls has lived up to expectations and has taken the box office by storm. The hit movie grossed nearly $9 million in it’s first day in North American Theaters.

The movie is an adaptation of the Broadway hit that was loosely based on the story of Diana Ross and the Supremes. The movie came in second behind Ben Stillers comedy “Night at the Museum” which took in $11.8 million on Monday from four times as many theaters.

“This thing has been generating big numbers from the moment it opened,” said Paul Dergarabedian, head of the box office tracking service Media By Numbers.

dreamg.jpg In comparison, the 2002, when the hit movie Chicago made $9.2 million between the Christmas weekend and the week that followed Christmas.

However, the Muhammad Ali boxing drama “Ali” still holds the Christmas day opening making $10.2 million on December 25th 2001.

Dreamgirls managed to score seven nominations for the Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards, and five nominations for the Golden Globes making it a serious contender for the Oscars.

All this before it publically hit a wide array of Theaters throughout the country. The film stars Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, Beyonce Knowles, and newcomer Jennifer Hudson.
