Scared a Coon!

by Tricia

Saturday night, 9:30 p.m.

I Walked into the kitchen while I was talking on the phone with my husband (he was at work) and noticed that our security light at the back door was on.

I peeked out the window and saw the bushy tail and bushy butt of a big raccoon as it walked on our tiny white picket fence near the driveway. It was balancing on the fence, caught between two of my roses- Breath of Life, and Scent-Sation.

I wrapped hard on the window as my husband encouraged me with “Get Him!”.

The raccoon slipped a bit when it heard my knocking on the window and it sort of fell into one of the rose bushes. Then It scrambled over the other side of the fence into our neighbors backyard.

Ha! Score one for me! I scared my little friend away. I’m pretty sure that that was the one that sits and watches me water the garden late at night. He or she creeps me out when it does that, ’cause you just never know what a raccoons gonna do.

Little bugger was probably going to raid something.
Actually I love to watch them. We live in the country and rarely do I see coons they raid the garden pond and feast on my koi and gold fish then dash off into the night.

We have a raccoon that loves to take a dump on our roof. I hate that raccoon!

I both love to watch the racoons and fear them. I love them because they are so inquisative and fear them, because they could be rabid or come into contact with my cats. They are neat creatures, but you really need to be careful if you see them during daylight hours.

When I was a kid, my grandparents ‘adopted’ an orphaned coon that my cousin found on the roadside.

He was the most adorable animal I ever had the opportunity to spend time with. Of course, eventually he grew up and they let him rewild and go about his business.

But everyone in town remembers ‘Rocky’ racoon!:-)
