Those are my two box turtles. Spaz is in the first photo and he’s an Eastern Box Turtle. He’s very inquisitive and I think he thinks he’s a lizard cause he loves to climb! Myrtle, the one in the grass, is an Ornate Box Turtle. She’s about 45 years old, while Spaz is only 12 or so. Oh yes, Myrtle loves to bury herself in the earth in her home, that’s why her shell looks dirty here.

Please visit my two other sites that are participating in Wordless Wednesday – Tricia’s Musings, and Odd Planet. They are the first two Mr. Linky links.

    Have a great day!

Great pics! how long have you had Myrtle and what is her life expectancy?? happy ww 🙂

Tricia Says – Mar, Box turtles (they are similar to tortoises and not very aquatic) can live to be approximately 75 years old. I think it might be a good idea for me to put these guys in my will!

Aww, what cute turtles. My cousin has some pet turtles too… or had. She had them in a well-like pond outside and sometimes when she took them out to clean the pond one would crawl into the drains and she’d loose it. That was when they were tiny (about palm size), once they grew bigger they weren’t as easy to loose.

That first shot is a little scary. Those red eyes staring out at you. And the turtle looks to be a good size. Our box turtle is kinda small! My WW is up.

I used to live where in our back yard we had turtles roaming around and parakeets in this humonous cage. It was awesome.

They are both too cute, but I love the angle of the first pic. He looks almost mysterious with that one red eye peeking through the grass. BTW, how long have you owned the 45 year old? Great photos, thanx for sharing!
