Blast from the past

Hey, I just thought I’d show you what part of my garden looked like three years ago. How do you like this photo? It has quite the assortment of plants doesn’t it?

Delphinium, lilies, poppies – blooming and producing seed heads, Cleome, a sunflower and I think I see the leaves and the bud of a dahlia. Yeah, I like an assortment of plants.

I’ve since stopped planting my plants so close together and I haven’t grown any poppies for a couple of years. Sunflowers I now grow in the front boulevard, same with the dahlias. The rest I still grow in the backyard though.






I want garden themed stationary

Are you an office supply addict? I have all kinds of sticky notes like post it’s, and assortment of pens and my beloved sharpies. I use the sharpies to write on those wooden garden marker sticks when I plant new seedlings or even in the trays when I’m growing them in the spring. The writing doesn’t fade off very easily with all the humidity because sharpies are permanent markers.

I also write down any new plants that I plant in my garden beds. I usually do this on lined paper or yellow notepads. I guess I just love office supplies. My desk is full of stuff that I use all the time. Now I’m trying to use this blog to keep track of new plants that I’ve placed around the garden and their progress. It’s not working out all that well though as I still find myself writing something on one type of piece of paper or another each day.

I still haven’t decided on what type of designer personal checks I’m going to get yet either. As I said in an earlier post I want to get checks with some kind of garden theme as a background, perhaps a rose background, but which ever kind I decide on my plan is to buy cheap checks because I don’t use checks very often so I don’t feel that I need to spend too much on them. Still I’d like them to be personal.

I don’t think I’ve ever said on this site that I used to keep reptiles, well I still do – two box turtles. Back when I had a lot of reptiles – many lizards I used to go to reptile shows and I’d buy writing pads with different reptiles designs on them. I bought so many back then that I still have a few. I was even thinking of trying to find some checks that had a reptile on them. I don’t think I ever found any though. LOL

So tell me – are you hooked on office supplies too? Do you have pads of papers or pens stored in several rooms in your house?

Do you decorate your garden?

I’m just wondering how many of my readers have garden ornaments peeking out amongst their plants?

I have a few very nice pieces of metalwork ornaments created by local metal artists – one is a chameleon climbing on a plant and headed towards a leaf, and another is a lovely bird sitting on a perch. I have a few mass produced ornaments like a butterfly on a stick, a wobbly metal bee on a pole etc.

Then there’s the little figurines that I have placed here and there. When my parents passed away I took their little pigs, and an over-sized cricket that they always had placed in their garden beds. I also have a foot and a half long crocodile – somehow he blends in. LOL

When my mother passed away I knew I wouldn’t be getting back to my home town very often and I just love the area. It’s where my love of nature began. As I traveled back and forth from Toronto to Ottawa- my home town – I’d stop in some of the rocky area’s in the Ottawa valley and I collected large stones- most of them flat. With those stones I made my own stone man. I cannot think of the proper name for this stone figure that means welcome at this moment. He’s about two feet wide and two feet high and I love this ornament more than any other in my garden.
