I redecorate when it’s too cold to garden

by Tricia

Now that it’s cool outside and we can’t be in our gardens do your thoughts begin to focus on the inside of your home? Mine do. At least in December, January and February as it’s too early to really begin thinking of even starting seedlings, the only things that I do plant or garden wise during those months is maintain my houseplants and the plants that I’ve brought in from outdoors.

That leaves plenty of time for me to think about home renovations- of which we are deep into these days. This weekend our tin ceiling will go up in our living room dining room!

I also think about decor.

This is the time of year when I move furniture around to give a room a different look, or buy new furnishings to replace old and worn furniture or again to renew a rooms look.

Some of you might have kids that are growing older and might begin to think of redecorating their rooms, perhaps buying some kids furniture. One site that you might want to look at while you search for furnishings for your living room/ dining room, bedrooms or kids rooms might be www.greatpricedfurniture.com.

As the sites domain name implies they have great prices on their furniture and more importantly some very nicely styled furnishings. The link that I’ve listed above is for childrens furniture and if you visit the link you’ll see some very nice dressers, chairs, nightstands and beds. I like that some of their furniture designs for kids are smaller versions of adult style furniture. Kids like fun stuff but as they grow older they also like to have things that are similar to what their parents and other older family members have. Purchasing furniture designs such as these is one way of telling your child that they are maturing.

Have a look at the site and see what you think of all their furniture designs. I’m sure you’ll agree that they have some quality products.

Winter Arrived!

by Tricia

Ok now we’re having typical January weather. A snow and Ice storm through Sunday evening and all day Monday has left the streets, lawns and my garden covered with a couple of inches of snow.

Temperatures have also dropped this week. All day it’s been -10 C (14 F), and overnight Wednesday it’s going down to -15 c (5 F). These are the normal January temperatures that I was talking about in an earlier post.

Now all I can hope is that “real” winter doesn’t last more than a week. I’ve been spoiled by our very green December and January.

Asbestos is still being used in manufacture of products

by Tricia

Have you been exposed to asbestos in your job or perhaps in your old home?

There is a cancer called Mesothelioma that is most often seen 30 to 45 years after exposure to asbestos in 70% to 80% of all cases. This cancer affects the lining of the internal organs when cancerous tumors develop on the mesothelium (lining of internal organs). This used to be a rare disease, now it only considered uncommon.

We’re supposed to be working towards eradicating cancers, but newish ones like Mesothelioma are cropping up due to environmental exposure to harmful substances.

It wasn’t until the 1960’s that warnings about exposure to asbestos, mainly to workers in the construction industry were issued. Unfortunately Asbestos manufactures knew about the dangers at least 20 years prior to the warnings being issued.

Did you know that, even though the dangers of asbestos exposure are well documented today that over 3000 items are still manufactured with asbestos?

This information just makes me angry. So many companies and manufacturers are careless about the products that they use. If it can save them money to continue using a product that could be dangerous to consumers they don’t seem to care.

If you are as angry as I am, and if you, or someone you know has worked in an industry where they’ve been exposed to asbestos for two or more months in their lifetime you might want to visit this site that gives detailed information on starting a Mesothelioma Lawsuit and what you need to do if you’ve been exposed.
