Tin Ceiling going up this weekend

by Tricia

Our renovations are back on!

We have two good friends coming to our house from out of town this weekend. They’ll arrive on Friday. They are coming to help us finally put up our tin ceiling!

We purchased the tin ceiling tiles three years ago when we started renovating our living room and dining room area by knocking down some walls, and venetian plastering the walls. Now we’ll be working on getting the majority of the ceiling tiles up.

I’m excited! I’m finally going to see what the rooms look like with their new ceiling.

We’ll have to get a case of beer to keep the guys hydrated. (yes I know beer actually dehydrates, but most men don’t seem to realize that) My husband also wants to have a bbq but with the weather being so cold now I’m not so sure about that. We’ll see.

Once the ceiling is finally finished we just need to put the baseboards on, figure out what kind of molding will look nice with the tin ceiling and also decide what kind of wall to put up between the basement stairs and the dining room.

At that point all of the work we’ve started will be finished. After that we’ll decide whether we’re going to begin renovating the unfinished basement or the kitchen. This house is going to be very nice when we’re done.

Dreaming of Buenos Aires and escaping this cold weather

by Tricia

It’s -15 Celsius (5 F) outside right now! at 6 in the evening – do you know how cold it will be at midnight! Ahhhh!

The furnace is going full blast and still I feel cold. Just at the thought of what temperature it is outside even thought it is fairly toasty inside my home. This is when my old lady neighbour will end up walking into my backyard through the ice and snow to knock on my window and ask me to fix her TV … just when I want to hibernate indoors.

I am dreaming of a trip to a warm place right now. Some place in South America perhaps like Buenos Aires where the temperature is 25 C (77 F) right now. Oh my gosh, I’d love to be there right now just for the warmth.

Ok there’s plenty of reasons other than our current cold weather as to why I’d love to be in Buenos Aires right now. The warm temperatures are a huge factor, I’ll freely admit it, but the beaches, the people, the cafe’s, and the exotic animals. As many of you know I love reptiles and well, South America definitely has reptiles.

Actually as an amateur photographer I’d love to just sight see, and wander the streets taking photographs that would capture the essence of Buenos Aires as I saw it from a visitor/ tourists point of view.

I obviously found a site about Buenos Aires as I began to day dream about going to someplace warm and tropical and the site I found is specifically about Buenos Aires and it highlights all the different things that you can do in the city and surrounding area. The posts contain links to other great sites about specific attractions in Buenos Aires.

I’m bookmarking this site. I know I’m going to get away to a warm place like Buenos Aires eventually and this site has a lot of great info about things to do, hotels and places to see while visiting this interesting city.

Winter’s here

by Tricia

It’s official. So much for the balmy weather we’ve enjoyed through all of December and a good portion of January. Since last Monday, a week and a half ago, winter has been here in Toronto and it doesn’t look like it’s going to go away any time soon.

This week is colder than last. It’s -11(12..2 F) right now and tomorrow night it’s going to go down to -21 c (-5.8 F)! That’s darn cold! Brrr! I’m lucky in some ways that I don’t have to go out. I’m sick at home and I don’t have any more appointments this week so I can just stay inside and hope that my furnace keeps working.

How’s the weather in your area? A number of people that were also enjoying unseasonably warm weather this winter have also said that in the last week the cold weather descended on them as well.

Is it still warmer than average anywhere where it should be quite cold by now?
