My new garden pest

Well, I missed Green Thumb Sunday yesterday. This is my main reason:

IMG_2643

Yes, we got a puppy. She’s investigating some of the plants in the garden in this shot. As you can see we’ve had our first snow too.

Midnight is a Labrador Retriever pup and as you might already know Labs love to chew, chew, chew. I can only imagine what kind of challenges are ahead of me next spring and onward as far as keeping my garden intact!

That of course will be my goal. Keep the dog happy, but keep the garden looking nice too.

Luckily we have a number of nice parks in the area, as well as hiking trails and we aren’t too far from the beach. So … hopefully I’ll be able to keep the dog busy and happy in the various neighborhood parks and limit the damage that she might do to the garden.

Wish me luck!

BTW if you want to read more about Midnight and what happened after we brought her home early Saturday morning you can read about it at my other blog Tricia’s Musings.

I love the name Midnight. That is so cool. Good luck with a lab. they are great but they have a delayed toddler stage that last s about two years. My friend has a lovely black female called Julie and she is the greatest companion. I have a yellow called Luna and she certainly lives up to her name. I find them lovely, but you have to keep them close to you or they act out and dig and chew. But there is nothing like a new puppy!!! It’s so exciting.

We have a yellow Lab named Spanky! He’s an old man now at 8 and only sleeps and eats and wants you to pet him. But my-oh-my we have some stories about his first two years! He tore through my vinyl floor to the subfloor one day while I was gone! We now have tile in that room! Also, make sure to keep all towels and pillows up… those were his favorites to chew on, and I’ll still catch him every now and then with a corner of a pillow in his mouth.

But they are so lovable!! He will be your friend for life!!

I highly recommend an underground fence! I know some people don’t like them, but once they learn their boundaries (in just a few days) you no longer have to worry about them running off. It’s great peace of mind!

    Midnight is so cute.
    A new puppy…God help you.
My dogs are both twelve I haven’t had to worry about chewing for about 11 years.
    Enjoy.
