Check cash advance

by Tricia

I just hate it when I run out of money before the next paycheck. It doesn’t happen often, but it has in the past.

When I was just 18 or 19 years old and new to living in Toronto and managing my money I found that I had more problems managing my money. This was a problem because most of my bills came in at the beginning of the month and if I had mismanaged my money some bills only got partially paid, or if I did have enough to pay all the bills I was low on cash for buying other things I needed- like groceries.

As you can tell I didn’t make a lot of money when I first moved here. I remember one time when I was very low on cash and went to a shop here in Canada called “Money Mart”. It’s the same company that offers Payday Cash Advance Loans. I guess that’s just it’s Canadian name.

I was getting a regular paycheck and I had it, but I think it was a Friday and the banks were closed and I wouldn’t be able to deposit it into my account until Monday. I needed the money that day. So I went in with my check and I was approved for a Check Cash Advance. The company took a small percentage of the check as a fee for the service, but I had the majority of my pay check to spend as I wished.

I’ve never had to get a Cash Advance since that time. No it’s not because I suddenly developed better money management skills. Well, they have improved but they didn’t improve over night. Either way, I suppose I just never needed money that quickly again. However, If a similar situation did come up in the future I know I’d try it again.

Blinded by the light

by Tricia

I’ve often thought of having some blinds installed in our house. I think I would probably have them in our south facing rooms since the sun is so very bright from early morning until at least noon. It’s absolutely blinding at times. There’s nothing like trying to cook something in the kitchen and not being able to see what you’re doing because it’s so bright.

I guess I shouldn’t complain. We only have a couple of east facing windows, no west facing windows, and the rest face North which makes at least half our house fairly dark.

If I had blinds installed in the kitchen at least I’d be able to partially shut them when the sun was too bright, and open them up fully again when the sun wasn’t shining directly in through that window.

I’ve actually been thinking of renovating the kitchen. That can’t happen until we finish the living room/ dining room (this weekend I hope) of course. I might even hold off until we’ve finished renovating the basement as well. I think getting more space in this house that we can use is more important than having the kitchen of my dreams. However, the kitchen is on the list of reno’s that we plan to do.

I’d like to give the kitchen a Mediterranean feel. It’s fairly plain right now, so it wouldn’t matter if I picked blinds that would suit the future kitchen because I’m sure they would fit in just fine with the current design and colors of our present kitchen.

I’ve always liked bamboo and wooden blinds as opposed to metallic, fabric or plastic blinds. I guess I’d better start looking for blinds soon since the sun is getting stronger and my kitchen is getting brighter!

Change of plans

by Tricia

Looks like we have to delay our tin ceiling going in for another week. We were going to have two friends come over for the weekend to help us. Well mainly to help Chris ’cause I’m not up to renovating these days.

Unfortunately our friends can’t come to help this weekend.

I think it’s actually turned out well because as I said I’m not feeling well and I’m not sure that I’d want out of town guest for two days and my living room dining room area’s in an uproar as the ceiling went up.

I am looking forward to it being done, but we’ve waited this long already. What’s one more week?
