Top quality espresso and coffee machines

by Tricia

Do you enjoy coffee? Espresso? I do. Sometimes I think I live on coffee.

Like most people, I think my favorite coffee is the first one of the day. Sometimes, if it’s a nice day, I’ll take my coffee outside and sit at the patio table and admire my garden. Coffee and blooms, a perfect match.

If you enjoy coffee as much as I do you might be interested in visiting the website 1st in coffee.

1st in Coffee specializes in offering top quality espresso machines and coffee makers. There’s a wide selection of top of the line products. I’ve gazed longingly at many of the espresso machines that that are being sold at 1st in Coffee while in department stores. One day I will get get myself a nice espresso machine.

The website itself is very easy to navigate. The main page of the site lists all of the stores Super Specials. Just click on the image of an espresso machine, coffee maker, grinder or coffee product and you’ll be taken to a page that describes the product in detail.

I’m actually impressed by how much information is listed for most of the espresso machines that I viewed. You’ll find a short summary of the products features, an itemized detailed description of the products features, and information about the products specifications – size, weight, how much power it uses and even warranty information.

All of the products sold by 1st in Coffee have some form of description, although not all contain as much detail as I described above. I did notice that some of the product descriptions even contained videos.

It’s easy to find whatever items for which you might be shopping. On the left side of the page you’ll find a menu that allows you to browse the stores items by product type or by brand name. The lower portion of the menu has listings for four brands of specialized coffee.

At the bottom of each page you’ll find buttons that you can click that will take you to top selling products, favorites and Best under $500. There’s also a button marked “We can Help” which takes you to a page that lists the companies phone number and email address.

1st in Coffee has a price match guarantee, a 30 day guarantee and for all but those in New Jersey there is not sales tax on purchases. In addition to these policies, 1st in Coffee also offers free shipping on all purchases over $50 within the lower 48 contiguous United States.

It’s obvious that the company has taken care to select the best products and to create a website that highlights their quality products nicely. When a company takes this much care in their presentation you know you’re in good hands.

Living green can save you money

by Tricia

As a follow up to the post I wrote about whether the Live Earth concert would make a difference in the way people live I thought I’d write about one of the comments on the Go Smell the Flowers site that inspired my post in the first place.

One of the posters seemed to believe that changing over to a green life style would cost a lot of money and might discourage people from making such changes.

Well as someone who has changed her own life style over the years to live in a greener manner I can tell you that a green lifestyle can actually save you money.

Sure the energy efficient light bulbs cost more, but they last four or more times longer than regular light bulbs and barely make a blip on your energy bill so you’ll end up saving money by using them. Plus, if you’re a little bit afraid of heights like I am you won’t have to stand on chairs, step stools or ladders as often to change bulbs.

We compost our food scraps and then use the compost. We also add grass clippings, a small amount of paper product and leaves collected in the autumn to keep our compost going then we use the compost on our garden each spring. The compost is rich in nutrients and acts as a natural fertilizer for our garden.

Growing your own food is cheaper and less fattening than buying processed food or even veggies and fruit that have been transported from the other side of the country. The fruit and veggies that you’ll grow will be full of nutrients and fresher than those you can purchase in a store, plus the act of gardening is good exercise.

If you have a small space you can grow veggies in window box planters – whether they are mounted in a window area or not. If you compost you can use the compost that you’ve made on your own to fertilize your home grown veggies. Once you purchase your initial materials the cost of growing your own food is very low.

Hanging your clothes outside on a line to dry in the sun is cheaper than running the dryer and your clothes smell fresher. Our dryer is very old and uses a lot of energy – we save a ton of money by not using it very often.

Walking, or biking more often is good for you and doesn’t cost you a cent.

Taking public transport is cheaper than paying for gas and insurance for your car and has a lower C02 footprint.

Buying a re-usable bag to bring to the grocery store has an initial cost, but if you shop at a store that charges 5 cents per plastic bag you’ll save money in the long run and keep plastic bags out of landfills.

The law says we must recycle here in Toronto – at least if you are a home owner. The city provides the various recycling containers that we use so it doesn’t cost us any money to perform this task.

If you convert your house to an alternative power source it will be expensive, but in the research I’ve done on this I’ve learned that many homes in my city that have converted actually make surplus energy and the local energy company ends up buying it back from them. So in the long run that saves money or possibly even makes you money.

All of what I’ve mentioned above can save you money and I don’t find them difficult to do at all.

Do you have any more tips or ideas?

A site to find or submit great gardening articles

by Tricia

I just visited a website called Thoof for the first time. Thoof is a site that offers personalized news. By this I mean that it contains news articles, videos, websites and photographs from sources all over the world.

You can search through the site as a visitor for any topic that interests you, but once you become a registered member of the site Thoof keeps track of what you’ve been reading or searching for on the site and provides a personalized page for you that contains all of the stories that suit your personal taste.

I wanted to tell you about Thoof today because I used it to search for gardening articles and it returned three fantastic articles that I can use to get ideas for my own garden, or perhaps even write about in my own way on this site. Now I’m sure that the next time I log into Thoof it will show me any new gardening articles that have been added to the site since my last visit.

The article that I found most interesting was called “Beyond the Garden” and it discusses landscape architecture, particularly in the form of the green roof. This is something that has interested me for quite a while. I can’t create a green roof on my current home, but if I ever purchase a house where I might be able to do this you can bet I’ll be creating a green roof. Yet another area to garden in and it will help keep my home cool in the summer!

Since registered members of Thoof can actually submit articles either by filling out a short form on the site or by using a bookmarking tool in their browser I might submit my own gardening articles and those of any other gardening blogs that I find interesting and helpful.

In this way I can use Thoof to promote our gardening hobby and the authors who have written fantastic gardening related articles too. Would you be interested in doing something like that as well?

Of course you can go to the site and read any of the top stories or submit articles about pretty much any topic. Articles about Sicko – Michael Moores latest movie, seems to be the hottest topic on Thoof today. I just chose to focus on gardening because it can be hard to find excellent gardening articles – particularly on current news related sites.

Visit the site for yourself and see if you can find some articles of interest. Remember, you can always submit articles that you enjoy as well.
