The Perch

by Tricia

mourningdove

I figured that since I’ve been talking about the wildlife in my garden this week that I should probably post some photos of the creatures that I’ve been encountering.

This mourning dove photo was actually taken last year at my in-laws but the four mourning doves that are hanging out in my garden naturally look quite a bit like this one.

I love the way they stare at you. Their feathers are of a lighter color around the eyes, and I think it highlights their eyes and makes them look larger and well, if truth be told, a little empty at times. They always look a little perplexed to me.

Hot, humid and muggy!

by Tricia

It is so hot here in Toronto! At this time – almost 7 pm it’s 32 Celsius 90 F, and it apparently feels like 36 c ( 96.8 F) with the humidity. That’s normal body temperature – 96.8 F.

Toronto is so humid. I’m sure that this is just the beginning of a long hot muggy sticky summer. It was even hotter earlier today.

Yesterday was a little cooler but still warm and sticky.

I did end up going out into the garden yesterday evening. Within an hour I was overheating! When I finally did go back inside several hours later it took me a couple of hours to cool off even though we had the air conditioning on. Unfortunately when I did cool off I felt too cold! There’s no happy medium is there?

Can’t get to the garden

by Tricia

I had a bet with myself as to whether I would have gotten the plants that I purchased last Sunday planted by this time.

Remember I went out and got replacement roses for the ones I lost over winter and a whole slew of hardy and tropical vines?

Well they still aren’t planted! Same excuse as always. I’ve been feeling too ill to get the job done. Isn’t that sad? My garden is a place that makes me feel happy, relaxed and I do enjoy working in it … but I can’t because I just don’t feel well enough to even step outside the door let alone plant anything.

I think my husband is going to need some quick lessons on how to plant things properly and I’ll have to gain some extra patience for the process!
