Spring is my favorite season

by Tricia

I absolutely cannot believe how much the garden has grown! We’ve pretty much had rain, and thunder storms for the past 24+ hours here in Toronto and the plants are just loving it!

I’d swear that last Friday or so when I checked the garden the Hosta’s were up, but only showing a few inches of pointy swirled growth. Now the leaves have grown and unfurled and the plants look full and lush! The Hosta’s are each at least a foot and a half in diameter and as the leaves grow more of course they’ll spread out.

It just amazes me how fast the plants can grow. The German Iris’ look like they are developing buds and two of my clematis have tons of flower bud and might even have flowered today. I didn’t peek at them today so I can’t say for sure but I wouldn’t be surprised if there are clematis blooms out there.

I think that because of the amazing growth of plants and the fact that we go from snow cover, to dull dead plants to vibrant green with blooms in the such a small space of time is why Spring is my favorite season. There’s just so much going on. Close your eyes and your bound to miss something!

Tulips reverting?

by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

Red Tulip

Believe it or not, this is a tulip!

I don’t recall planting this type of tulip. What I think has happened is that my Texas Flame fringed tulips might have started to revert back to one of the types of tulips that they were created from.

Perhaps the tulips have been spreading and this tulip, and the ones near it, are actually new bulbs? There’s a group of 6 or so of them mixed in with the Texas Flames, and that’s why I think they might have reverted back to one of their parent species.

Either way, it’s a beautiful tulip isn’t it?

This weeks Theme is Five

I’ve been very focused on my garden this week.

Watching how much it’s grown each day, how much the plants grew after a recent storm … checking on what’s bloom and taking literally hundreds of photos to record the gardens progress.

This weeks Photo hunter them asked us to show a photo that represents Five in some way. I’m sure there’s some great entries this week and I hope to get around to see everyone’s shots soon! My choice for this weeks theme is this lovely group of five red tulips. They are in full bloom and since they have so many petals they almost look like roses don’t they?

Red Tulip

Such deep orangish reds are a challenge for most camera’s aren’t they?
