Family of raccoons

by Tricia

I was just sitting in my living room and I saw the sensor light in our driveway go on. It does this from time to time and occasionally when I check I’ll see an animal but often I can’t find whatever triggered the light.

Not this time! I looked out the side window just in time to see a bushy tail pass by, so I moved to the kitchen at the back of the house and as they triggered the light in the back I was able to see two big raccoons followed by three smaller coons. The small raccoons weren’t babies, perhaps they were young adults in their first year. I’m sure it was a family though.

Luckily they were just passing through. They had walked down the driveway, and straight through the backyard. I don’t see them very often in the winter time, so it’s possible that this was one of my last sightings this year.

Have you used your garden for a wedding?

by Tricia

Have you ever used your garden or used flowers from your garden for someones wedding? This past summer I did – well used some of my flowers in arrangements for my husbands cousins wedding.

I wish I had some photos of the arrangements. All I have is video of the event and you can see the arrangements, right beside the most adorable candle wedding favors. I used a combination of my pink and pale yellow roses and it turned out very well.

I grow over 60 different types of roses so it was easy enough to gather enough flowers for the arrangements. We did five for them and they adored them. Perhaps next summer I’ll get to use my garden or flowers from my garden again for a special event.

If you ever have promised your garden or it’s flowers for something like a wedding how did it turn out? Were your flowers blooming when you needed them to be?

Garden Voices

by Tricia

Garden Voices Logo 150x48 A few days ago, Carin from A Gardening Year aka “Oldroses”, contacted me and said that she noticed that I wasn’t listed in Garden Voices and she asked me if I’d like to join. I am proud to say that I am now listed in Garden Voices.

Garden Voices takes clippings from gardening blogs and lists a short excerpt of the post on the site. Anyone can browse Garden Voices – either by reading page by page through the blog style posts, or by viewing the categories they are interested in reading. I believe that Garden Voices will give it’s members garden blogs more exposure and thus more visitors in the long run. I’m very excited about being invited to be a part of this innovative site.

I noticed that Garden Voices doesn’t seem to have logos for it’s members to put on their sites so I created a few logos that any member can use. All I ask is that you don’t link directly to my images. Thanks.
gardenvoices logo 120x90 Please right click over any image in this post that you would like to use on your own site and save it to your computer. You can then add the logo to your blogs sidebar once you have your own copy of the image.

The last two images that I’m including are banner images although I’m going to shrink them down in size in this post, clicking on them will bring you to a full size copy of the below listed banner images, and from there you can right click over them and save them to your computer for your own use.

This is a 468 x 60 image:

This is a 471 x 71 image:

Please use these images or any other ones that Garden Voices provides for you to use. You’ll be promoting a great site, and in return, if you are listed on Garden Voices they will be promoting your site too.
