Beautiful Malva sylvestra

malvasylvestra

There are many types of plants that fall into the family Malva – Hibiscus, cotton plants, mallows, okra and even Hollyhocks.

I grow several types of Malva in my garden and indoors – three types of hibiscus, two mallow species and at least four different types of hollyhocks.

All of this plants have simple yet wide open flowers.

I love the Malva sylvestra that I’ve posted above. It’s very easy to grow, seeds itself and spreads easily but not so much that one would call it invasive, and tolerates lightly shaded areas well.

The delicate stripes on the flowers of M. sylvestra are what drew me to this plant in the beginning and it’s ease of care are one of the reasons why I plan to keep it in the garden for years to come.

Garden Collage

I took all of these photos in early September. The garden was looking magnificent at the time.

The heat of summer was calming and we’d been getting enough rain that combined with regular watering all the plants were in fine form.

The flowers- from left to right – are a gorgeous pink cactus dahlia, a hybrid sunflower, Sedum Autumn Joy blooms, white fragrant nicotina and the one that you can barely see on the bottom is the seed head of a datura flower.

Have a great Wednesday!

Zephirine Drouin

Another lovely rose from my garden:

I have 60 or more rose plants throughout my garden.

This rose is located near my patio because it blooms several times throughout the summer – almost constantly, so there is always a pretty blooming rose to see when we sit on the patio for dinner.

Well, with 60 rose plants I guess I’ve always got a few in bloom anyway, but this one blooms a bit more often than some of the others.
