Perovskia little spire

Wordless Wednesday

IMG_1872

Well the snow is still here, covering my garden and making it difficult to walk around, but it’s a bit warmer outside today (above zero!) so it’s starting to melt a bit.

Still … I prefer to remember how pretty my garden looks when it’s not covered in snow.

The flowers above are Russian Sage. It’s formal name is Perovskia little spire. I grow it at the very end of my front garden near the walkway and sidewalk. It sends up delicate woody shoots that bloom late in the season. In fact, this photo was taken October 1st and as you can see it’s blooming happily away.

Next Spring I think I’ll look for more day lilies. They make a lovely display in the garden, especially ones that bloom more than once each year!

If my memory serves me correctly the ones I’ve pictured above are called Candy Stripe and yes, they rebloom about four times each season. I grow them in the boulevard in front of my house.

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

Tiger Lily close up

This is an orangey red tiger lily that grows each year in my garden.

I love looking out my kitchen window in the morning and seeing their fiery color in the bright sun. They really are quite pretty when grown in large clumps.

Just don’t bend down to try to smell a lily.

That colored pollen stains and if you get it on your face, arm or shirt it will take a while to get off. I believe it’s just about impossible to get off clothes!
