Honeysuckle Gold Flame

I’m hoping that my Honeysuckle Gold Flame managed to survive the winter! We grow it at the side of the house, at the back entrance to the garden.

It’s in a large planter pot that’s right against the brick wall of the house. Along the wall we’ve placed wooden lattice for the honeysuckle to grow on, and on the entrance side of the plant there’s the bamboo arbor where several of the honeysuckles branches tend to grow.

I used to have a harlequin honeysuckle in this area, but it wasn’t hardy enough to be in a planter over winter it seems. So I replaced it with the Golf Flame which is a hardier honeysuckle.

I sure hope it survived. It’s definitely had quite a bit of snow cover this year! It’s so very pretty when it blooms that I’d hate to lose it.

The photo above is of the Gold Flame honeysuckle when it was just about to bloom for me for the first time. It has beautiful colorful flowers.

A gnawing habit

Wordless Wednesday

I’m so afraid that this photo might foretell the future of my garden!

You see I have an almost 6 month old Lab puppy and, if you don’t know, Labs love to chew everything!

We plan on trying our best to keep our puppy out of the garden beds, but I have a feeling if I let down my guard some of my roses might end up looking like this tree! Can you imagine?

Well I guess some of you can as I’ll bet a few of you have had a garden bed dug up or destroyed by a pet dog in the past.

I sure hope our dog doesn’t become our biggest garden pest! LOL

This rose is Graham Thomas. It’s an English Rose by David Austin. Isn’t it lovely?

This rose grows to close to 8 feet or so each year, even after a bad winter when I’ve had to prune the rose bush down to a foot or less in the spring. It’s very resilient. It also blooms abundantly each season. I’d say once it gets going the blooms come almost continuously actually!

Sorry I’m so late with my GTS post this week. My mouse died yesterday and I didn’t get a new one until this afternoon … plus we’ve had major storms here again too. Ice storms and lots of rain and that’s affected my internet connection. As a result of all of that I wasn’t able to post until now. I sure hope my internet connection stays up this time.

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information. GTS participants remember to check in at As the Garden Grows each week so that we’ll know you made a new post!
