Flowers make a great muse

by Tricia

This evening I spent some time going over the photos I’ve taken in the last week or so of the flowers and foliage in my garden.

I really enjoy photographing my garden as it grows. Each leaf, each bud, and finally each flower contains multiple photographic opportunities as they develop.

I decided to show you this photo today. Can you see how the petals of the daffodil have tiny little sparkling areas of iridescence. Until I took this photo I never realized that the petals were so … sparkly. If you can’t see it well with the photo this size, click on it and you’ll end up on my Flickr page where you can see a larger image.

Hyacinth Macro

by Tricia

Many of the regular readers of this site are gardeners, or gardener wannabe’s. Everyone seemed to love my close up photo of the coral colored Hyacinth in one of my recent posts.

I bet you didn’t know that I took it a step further and got even closer. Hyacinth flowers are each less than once inch wide, perhaps as small as half an inch wide. Here’s an extreme closeup of one single hyacinth blossom:

Coral Hyacinth

I got as close to the flower as I could and used the zoom function on my camera. Once I downloaded the photo to my computer I cropped the photo until I got the image you see above.

Interesting? Too close?

Tulips reverting?

by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

Red Tulip

Believe it or not, this is a tulip!

I don’t recall planting this type of tulip. What I think has happened is that my Texas Flame fringed tulips might have started to revert back to one of the types of tulips that they were created from.

Perhaps the tulips have been spreading and this tulip, and the ones near it, are actually new bulbs? There’s a group of 6 or so of them mixed in with the Texas Flames, and that’s why I think they might have reverted back to one of their parent species.

Either way, it’s a beautiful tulip isn’t it?
