Florapedia – ProFlowers new flower guide

by Tricia

Can you believe that today is the first full day of Spring? Time certainly flies doesn’t it? Before long it will be Easter and then Mother’s day right after that!

I don’t know about you, but my garden is only just beginning to wake up. I certainly won’t have flowers growing by Easter, and they’ll only just be starting to bud when Mother’s day arrives.

Having said that, I have bookmarked a great site called ProFlowers. They specialize in flower & plant delivery, and have quite a nice assortment of bouquets, plants, planted baskets and even gourmet gifts. They even offer International delivery.

There’s one special feature of the ProFlowers site that I think many of you will enjoy. It’s their new flower guide. It’s called Florapedia. The Florapedia has great information about choosing the right kind of flower for a particular occasion, care and tips, Floral factoids, and decorating tips and ideas. This is a great added bonus to the site, and I’m certain you’ll learn something new in the Florapedia.

So keep Proflowers in mind the next time you need to send someone a special occasion gift, and remember to take a peek at the Florapedia too.

Think about Perennial Geraniums

by Tricia

I think that most gardeners end up buying annual geraniums for their flower pots, baskets and window box planters each year, or it’s similar counter part the Pelargonium.

However, have you ever thought about planting some of the lovely perennial geraniums? They make great garden plants, many of which bloom several times each season. There is a wide variety of perennial geraniums to choose from.

Johnson’s Blue is one of the most popular of the perennial geraniums and I must admit that I grow this geranium myself. I love it’s delicate iridescent blue flowers. It’s just gorgeous when photographed in the right light setting too.

Other perennial geraniums that you might want to try include “Claridge Druce”, “Wargrave Pink”, “Ballerina”, “Biokovo” and Splish Splash. These varieties are often sold as small plants in nurseries, however you might be able to purchase seeds for these geraniums from Thompson and Morgan.

Seashells can be used to create interesting decor accessories

by Tricia

My parents used to be what I’d call winter Texans. Yes, they were snowbirds, but instead of going to Florida like many of the other snowbirds they found a place to call a home away from home in Texas.

My mother liked to do various crafts while she was in Texas and she’d bring them home when they came back in the spring. She made decorative plant pots and even hanging patio lights.

However, my favorite types of things that she made were made with sea shells. She’d get nice glass wear and fill them with shells and believe it or not a pretty glass full of attractive shells is quite nice. She’d also use plain glass jars and glue shells to the outside. The jars could then have tea light candles inside them. This made simple yet attractive candle holders.

She also used shells and starfish to decorate the outside of plant pots. She wouldn’t cover the whole pot with shells, no, she’d just make an attractive pattern on the pot.

When I visited Quality Shells a few minutes ago, memories of my mother and her craft projects came rushing back to me. All those memories got me thinking that seashells, sand dollars and starfish could be used to create decorative items for table center pieces, or candle holders at weddings and other party settings, or then could be used as I’ve described my mothers use of them.

I have some shells that I just leave on top of a mantle piece. I like the look of them lying loose on the mantle. Their colorful shells catching my eye as I pass them during the day.

If you’d like to use shells for your own craft projects why don’t you visit Quality Shells and select some of their beautiful shells for your next project?
