My Hydrangea can’t decide if it’s pink or blue

Last year I bought a Hydrangea plant for my garden.

I think I bought it in August or September so it didn’t do anything last year except settle itself into it’s new home. I believe it’s an Endless Summer Hydrangea and it was definitely labeled as a *pink* hydrangea.

It started to bloom about two weeks ago, and much to my surprise it’s flower clusters are not pink, nor are they blue … they are bi-colored!

Confused Hydrangea - blue and pink at same time!

My Hydrangea is severely confused!

I guess I’d better decide if I really want it to be pink or blue and then get out there and amend the soil appropriately. I believe you need to add lime to the soil if you want pink Hydrangeas and Aluminum to the soil if you want blue Hydrangeas. I’ll do some research.

If you have hydrangeas, did yours ever do this? Isn’t it strange?

Large selection of custom window treatments

by Tricia

Like many home owners we try to do some type of renovation or decorating project on our home each year, whether it’s to help maintain the house or to make a room more functional and beautiful.

Many long term readers of this blog probably remember that we are completely renovating our home. We’ve been on a break from renovations for a while, but it will soon be time to start up again. We still have to finish our living room / dining room area, but after that we’ll move on to our Kitchen, the basement and the two bathrooms. After than the only things that will need to be done might be repainting, maintenance and perhaps changing decor.

If you are thinking about changing the look of a room you might start with a coat of paint and then perhaps move on to the windows. Adding shades or blinds to a window can help change the look and feel of a room, plus blinds and shades add function as well because you can control the amount of light in the room easily by simply adjusting the blind or shade.

If you’d like to look at a wide selection of custom window treatments for your home you might want to visit the DecoratingDepot as they have a fantastic selection of Wood Blinds, shades, horizontal and vertical blinds, Faux Wood Blinds and more.

They even have a selection of sliding panel blinds. I really like the look of their Woven Wood Sliding Panel. They’d look great in my enclosed back porch since it’s all windows.

Their blinds and shades come in a variety of materials and colors, for example you can get bamboo, wooden blinds, faux wood blinds, aluminum and vinyl blinds, and roman shades.

DecoratingDepot offers free shipping, no tax, guarantees their price and I believe you can even request free samples if you are having trouble deciding which type of blind or shade to choose. They even have a “virtual room decorator” that you can use to see how various types of blinds or shades might look in your room. Check it out for yourself.

My mailbox fell off the wall!

by Tricia

I’ve mentioned a few times over the last year that I need to get a new mailbox for our house, but yesterday it became clear that I’ve got to replace it soon, preferably this month.

Yesterday as I took the few pieces of mail that we’d received out of our mailbox it completely fell off the wall! That hinge that’s always acting up had caught on my hand and as I lifted out the mail the whole box came away attached to my hand and the mail I was trying to pull out of it.

No more of this! It’s time to get a new mailbox.

I took a look at the various mailboxes at Mailboxixchange and I was pleased with their selection. Our current, broken, mailbox came with our house so I’ve never really shopped for a mailbox.

Mailboxixchange carries the full line of Whitehall Mailboxes. Within that line of mailboxes you can choose from Personalized Mailboxes if you’d like. You know, ones with your monogram, your house number or even your house number and street name on them.

We live on a street with a long name so if we decided to purchase one of their Custom Mailboxes I think I’d just get our house number on it.

Along with the variety of styles that they have to choose from I also like that Whitehall mailboxes are cast from recycled die cast rust free aluminum. The metal is poured into a mold and then undergoes a substantial amount of pressure. This means that the mailboxes are lightweight yet made out of extremely dense metal that will withstand years of use.

Our current mailbox is a wallmount mailbox inside our enclosed porch. It’s very convenient to collect our mail – especially during the winter months. I might however, take a look at post mounted mailboxes. I’ve always liked the look of that type of mailbox and a post mounted mailbox might look nice. I’ll have to think about it.

If you’re looking for a new mailbox take a look at the selection at Mailboxixchange.
