This weeks Theme is Fake

When I saw this weeks Photo Hunters theme I thought to myself “what can I photograph that represents fake”. I had no idea. Sure, I could have done some obvious things, but I like challenging myself.

Luckily, my husband and I some time on Saturday to go to Toronto’s 40th annual outdoor art exhibition. My nephew just graduated from the Ontario College of Art – specializing in photography and he had a booth at the art show where he was showing his photos.

He never even shows his immediate family, his parents, his photographs, so we figured it might be years before we’d get another chance to see his fabulous photography so we went to the show.

I had no idea it would be so large! There were 500 artists exhibiting everything from photographs to sculptures in wood, glass, clay, and stone, pottery, paintings, prints, metal artwork and many other forms of art.

I brought my new SLR camera with me and as luck would have it I found some “fake” artwork that would be perfect for the Photo hunter theme.

Now, I know I’m behind in posting my photo hunter photos (on three sites) but I think I found great items to post.

The photo above is of watering cans. Clay or pottery sculptures. They are not functional but they are lovely aren’t they?

I took a lot of great photos on Saturday, many of which will be perfect for this site – funny garden related sculptures. You’ll love them. Watch for them in upcoming posts.






Plant your seedlings before it gets too hot

Who’s busy in the garden today?

It’s still early enough in the season to plant veggies, annuals and perennials. If you are like me, and haven’t started planting yet get to it soon. The evenings in most places still cool down at night and this is perfect for helping new plants get established.

If you delay and don’t end up planting until it’s hot and humid pretty much 24 hours a day it will take a lot more care to help newly planted annuals and veggies grow and survive.

I guess I’m writing this partly as a reminder and motivator for myself as I’m way behind in my garden care, maintenance and planting. If I don’t plant the annuals and veggies that I’ve already purchased soon they will likely die as they are drying out and becoming root bound in their small containers.

Is anyone else as behind as I am?

Maybe I should change the name of this site to As the Garden dwindles.

I’m neglecting my garden

The last time I was in the garden doing any work was more than a week ago. I tidied up the front garden beds and really meant to get to the backyard to finish the half that I had left to trim, prune and fix up, but I just haven’t got back there to do it.

Last weekend, not this one, last weekend we even went to a garden center and I bought some Tomato plants, cucumbers and a lot of other veggies as well as a few annuals to plant. Have I do anything with them other than water them three times? Nope!

I’ve just not been feeling well enough to get out there and get the work done.

It’s a shame really. The plants are surviving without me, but I know if I got out there and trimmed the dead wood off the rose, and pruned them into shape it would help stimulate them and make then grow a whole lot more. Also … I’d rather work with them now to shape them before they grow too much as it will be harder job and uh … more dangerous to my skin as they get bigger and fuller.

since I have more than 60 roses it’s quite interesting to take a look at my hands and arms after I’ve been working with them. I wear gloves but the thorns sometimes punch right through the gloves. I’ll come in after an hour or two of pruning and I’ll have scratches from the roses all the way up to my shoulders, or well … pretty close!

Is gardening a dangerous activity in your yard too?
