Plants that complement one another

by Tricia

DSC02220

Everyone seems to be enjoying photos of my garden so I thought I would show you a photo of my beautiful Tamukeyama cutleaf Japanese maple and a Hosta Gold Standard.

The rose, with the faded blooms, that you can see behind the hosta is my Compte de Chambord. Possibly the smelliest rose in my garden. When I say smelly I mean most beautifully scented rose.

This photo doesn’t really do the Japanese maple and hosta combo justice. The colors of these two plants are so vibrant and depending upon the light falling on them they can look slightly different at various times of day.

The hosta leaves range from a yellow tinged green to a chartreuse. All hosta’s love shade but this one actually needs a shady area as the leaves are very delicate and can be damaged by bright sun.

At this time of year the Japanese Maple’s leaves are a deep reddish maroon. In the early spring they are a bright light red, and in the fall they are an orangish fiery red. It’s a lovely small ornamental tree.

I think that the two plants complement each other nicely. What do you think?

Look no further if you are shopping for bedroom furnishings

I’ve been asked to do a write up for the online bedroom furniture and decor store TotalBedroom.com.

Headquartered in New Jersey, TotalBedroom.com is an online store that specializes in the sale of bedroom furniture for both adults and children, as well as bed linens and bedroom accents. The company had it’s start in 2003, and since that time has built it’s reputation as a provider of top quality bedroom furniture and accessories.

I’ve viewed each of the sections of the website, and I must say that they have taken the time to select some beautiful bedroom furnishings in traditional and contemporary styles. You’ll find bedroom furnishings to suit small and large spaces. Beds with built in extra storage compartments for those who need to be economical with their space, and luxurious full sized bedroom sets for those who have large rooms to fill.

brookland-leather-bed-dark-brown-med2.jpgOne of the bedroom furnishings that caught my eye was this beautiful Brookland Leather bed. The bed comes in queen and king sizes, and is constructed with a hardwood frame. Isn’t it lovely? This bed is actually on sale right now too!

I’d imagine that most of us are used to shopping in department stores or smaller retail stores that specialize in specific types of furnishings. If you have been shopping for bedroom furniture recently you are probably familiar with retail prices. I’ve found that the prices are substantially lower at TotalBedrooms.com when compared to similar items that can be found in retail stores.

Navigating the site is quite easy. Just use the menu that’s located on the left side of each page of the site to select the items you are interested in.

The top of the menu begins with TotalBedrooms.com’s Best Values section where you can find queen sized beds under $399, Headboards from $149, Platform beds from $154, Queen sets under $1,999 and comforter sets from $169.

You can shop the site by brand name or by the type of product. Listings include Daybeds, Bedroom sets, Beds, headboards, Futons, Futon Covers, Bedroom Furniture, Bedding, Kids Furniture, Bedroom Accents, Mattresses, Bed frames and Trundles. Their selection of beds range from Twin size beds all the way up to California King size beds in styles that include platform, sleigh, leather, wood, metal and lovely canopy beds.

bedding-diamonte-med2.jpg If you are interested in purchasing sheets, bedding or comforter sets look no further. TotalBedroom.com has a wide selection of styles in a variety of price ranges to suit your budget.

I’m quite taken with this Diamonte Bedding set. It’s lovely and looks luxurious. I even like the metal bed frame that it’s being displayed on.

The Deluxe Diamonte Bedding pack comes with a comforter, bedskirt, shams and a tri pillow pack. Whereas the Super pack includes all of the above plus Euro Pillows. This set is available in queen to California King size and ranges in price from $359 to $419.

The main page of the site lists specials such as Platform beds at reduced prices, Items that are on sale for between 35% to 65% off, Bedroom sets that are on sale and new items that have just been added to the inventory. You’ll also find specials listed at the bottom of most of the pages on the site as well.

If you happen to find a product being sold on TotalBedroom.com that’s being sold elsewhere for less you can inform them of the price difference and they’ll try to beat the price that you’ve found. See their Price Match Policy for more information.

If all that I’ve described above isn’t enough what do you think of the fact that TotalBedroom.com offers top level delivery service free of charge? They even use an online tracking system that will allow you to check the status of your order. At this time they only ship to the 48 states in the Continental USA.

All in all I think this is a well thought out website. It’s easy to navigate and is filled with a wide selection of products that anyone would be pleased to purchase for their home.

The Aquarium that never was

by Tricia

This is a photo of an old building on Lakeshore Blvd. in Toronto, near the Redpath Sugar factory. Actually it might even be part of the factory.

This mural was painted on the side of the building quite a while ago when they were talking about Toronto getting an aquarium. I think that was more than 10 years ago. Well, obviously the aquarium never happened or else I’d probably have some additional photos to show you of the actual site.

I really wish it had come into being. I love aquariums. I guess the closest thing that we have anywhere near Toronto would be Marine Land in Niagara Falls – but that’s more of a show.

Oh, we do have a beautiful large zoo here in Toronto but it doesn’t have many aquatic animals or fish. Still, if you ever do come to Toronto and you enjoy zoo’s please do try to take the time to go to the Toronto Metropolitan zoo as I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

I used to go several times a year, but I haven’t been there for perhaps the last three years. I guess it’s time for another visit very soon.

One of my favorite aquariums was in Vancouver. Every time I went to Vancouver I went to the aquarium. I used to love watching the Beluga whales. Unfortunately they were going to close down that aquarium and a few years ago they shipped most of the Belugas to Marine Land where I think they all died when they got an infection. So sad.

Do you have an aquarium or zoo near you? If so, do you go very often? At least once a year?
