Flowers everywhere!

by Tricia

I can’t believe my garden!

The roses have begun to bloom this week.

The winner of the first to bloom contest is my William Baffin Explorer rose as it was a close first to bloom, quickly followed by about five other roses on the same day including Morden Sunset, Bonica, Stanwell perpetual, the fairly and I believe Iceberg.

Three or four of my clematis are blooming, as is my Dropmore honeysuckle, the Siberian iris’, Princess Victoria Louise Oriental Poppy, and one of my peonies – peony Pecher.

Many of the other roses and perennial plants will soon follow as they are covered in buds!

The first rose to bloom, and many of the first roses to bloom are extremely hardy roses.

I’d actually have to say that William Baffin is no longer a rose bush or shrub but rather a rose tree. It’s at least 8 feet tall! So heavy with roses that it’s new branches are leaning out from the garden bed weighed down with buds and flowers. It’s a beautiful sight to see.

Yes, I will take photos shortly. I love being able to document how the garden is maturing with my camera.

Johnsons Blue Geranium

by Tricia

A week or so ago all of my Johnsons blue geraniums started to bloom. I love these perennial geraniums. Their flowers are an almost iridescent delicate blue. They’re just gorgeous.

When I took this photo there were only a few flowers blooming, but there were lots of buds. Now the geranium plants are covered in blue flowers just like this one. It’s beautiful.

Shade loving spring flower

I took this photo about two weeks ago.

Unfortunately I can’t remember the name of this plant. It’s a spring flower that for me, only blooms for approximately one week each year. The name is something like pasiflora … but yeah, I know it’s not a pasiflora as it’s certainly not a passion flower.

Whatever it is, it’s a lovely spring flower who’s blooms open fully in the daylight hours and close as the light dims in the late afternoon. I have mine planted in a fairly shady area, so it does well in shade.

This flower is no longer blooming and it’s foliage will die down sometime in the next few weeks as we come into the warm weather of summer.
