Is this a jasmine or not?

by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

Burning question. I bought this plant a few years ago. You know how some nurseries and garden centers don’t always have specific labels on their plants? Well this was marked as being a jasmine and as best as I can tell after looking at several varieties I think it’s Jasmine Sambac. Still I’ve never been fully sure.

Is this even a jasmine? It blooms day or night and the flowers last at least 24 hours unlike many of the other jasmines that I’ve owned in the past which have only bloomed at night time. The flowers are fragrant, but the scent doesn’t waft. You must get up close to smell it’s beautiful scent.

Here’s what the flowers look like on the plant:

Can you help me figure it out?

This weeks theme is Happy

I’m sure that anyone that’s been to this site before knows that as far as my garden goes seeing my plants doing well and blooming makes me happy.

Just look at the lovely rose photo I’ve included in this post.

I took that photo last year and I can’t remember just which rose bush those flowers were blooming on. My guess is that it’s either Compte de chambord or Baronne Prevost. Either way, the roses are lovely and highly scented.

Imagine walking into a garden filled with lush blooms like those above, surrounded my their beautiful scent. How could you not be happy.

A hardy little rose

by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

Charles albanel rose

This is a hardy rose named Charles Albanel.

I believe it’s part of the Canadian Explorer series. It blooms at least three times each season and when it does bloom it’s lush with flowers.

When I took this photo I think all of my roses were nearing the end of a bloom cycle but I think the heat wave and more frequent waterings (and maybe that mulch I discussed in the last post) gave them a boost because many are already blooming again.
