Turn a patio or deck into a year round sunroom

by Tricia

My brother is on holidays this week and on Monday he came to visit. It was a fairly nice day – not too warm although it was humid, so we sat outside in my garden for about an hour and a half.

Since the weathers been kind of odd this year – either lots of rain and storms or hot and humid, I haven’t spent a great deal of time sitting on my patio enjoying my garden this summer. It was nice to just sit in the garden and to not be doing garden work!

My brother and I talked about a number of things as we hadn’t seen each other for a while. He talked to me about plans for his garden and he also mentioned that he and his wife had been thinking of tearing down their deck and making a glass enclosed sunroom to enjoy year round.

I thought his sunroom idea was fantastic and I immediately starting thinking about how he and his wife could decorate the room with loose flowing curtains on the windows to give them so privacy when they wanted to be out of the eye of their neighbors.

My brother wasn’t that into my curtain idea as he really likes the idea of having the sunroom totally open, but if I ever turned our enclosed back porch and possibly part of our patio into a sunroom I think I’d have some flowing curtains that I could close for privacy.

I’d also decorate the sunroom with furnishings like some of the fantastic pieces of modern furniture from NYC Concept Furniture.

They have some beautiful sofas and sectionals that I think would look great in a garden themed sunroom. They also have some lovely tables that would work well in an open concept room.

Their selection of designer modern furniture is of high quality and it’s all been made in Europe. They’ve obtained a wide variety of furnishings for the living room, dining room, bedroom and other areas of the home from designers in Germany, Spain, Italy and Belgium.

Being in Canada I’ll probably have to get furniture for my possible sunroom locally, but if you are in the Greater NY/NJ/CT are you might want to take a look at what NYC Concept Furniture has to offer.

Gorgeous Casa Sollevare Luxury Home

by Tricia

Hey, do you enjoy looking at new homes?

I guess you could call it a form of window shopping.

I enjoy occasionally going to open houses in the area to see how other people have decorated or renovated their homes. Especially if the home is similar in design to my own. It’s a great way to get some ideas.

Even if the house isn’t similar to the home you’re currently in it’s a great way to get ideas for your own home or as a way to begin developing plans for a home you might buy in the future.

I sometimes even browse the MLS listings to compare home prices and take a virtual tour of houses. You could even do a search on one of the search engines for homes that have features that you’re interested in.

For example if you were looking for “luxury golf home Italian architecture” you’d find this absolutely gorgeous house!

This home, currently being highlighted on the CasaSollevare.com website is owned by the architect that created the luxury design on the Colorado Golf course. It was actually named the 2006 home of the year by Colorado Homes & Lifestyles magazine. It’s a Tuscan design and this luxurious home is a cliff side home elevated 350 feet. It has a 360 degree view that extends 50 miles and overlooks Colorado’s most popular wine producing area.

I love the gorgeous fireplace parlor.

Can you imagine retiring to the parlor after a fine meal? The chairs are lovely too. They look like some that I saw on another website earlier this week that were made of old wine barrels.

I’d also be more than pleased to have a kitchen like the one I’ve included an image of below in my own home! It’s modern yet appears to have that timeless old fashion style to it as well. I love the warm yellow walls too.

The attention to detail within the home is amazing. Each room is furnished beautifully.

I could add more photos and continue to gush over this lovely home, but the best suggestion I could make would be to visit the site and go on the virtual tour. I believe if you do the whole tour you’ll see all of the main rooms of the house on the upper and lower floors.

Believe me when I say this home has it all including a gym and spa, garden room, kitchen, wine cellar and so on. It’s even got an elevator!

Unfortunately this home is not within my price range at $2,500,000 but for all I know it may be within your budget! Whether it is or isn’t it’s a nice home to have a peak at and to dream about owning.

The sun’s guarding my garden

Do you decorate your garden?

I have a few ceramic and metal pieces scattered throughout the garden beds, on the fence or in this case on the wall of my enclosed back porch. I think my garden decor is tasteful and there’s only a few items scattered throughout the garden so it’s certainly not overwhelming. If anything is overwhelming in my garden it’s the roses.

My sun ornament is beside my green pole beans which really do grow on poles – bamboo poles that is. You can even see some green bean dangling beside the sun if you look closely. Perhaps my sun ornament is helping the beans grow?

I have cucumbers beside the beans and we finally got to pick a cucumber on Saturday. It was hiding behind several leaves and we surprisingly didn’t see it for a while. It’s close to two feet long and is at least 2.5 inches in diameter! It’s huge! Perhaps we’ll make some cucumber sandwiches later today. Mmmmm.

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.
