Discount Safety Gear

by Tricia

As I’ve said many a time, Spring is the time of year when home owners start to spruce up their homes, and start renovation projects both indoors and out. It’s also the time of year when new housing projects start up, and or construction crews and road crews get busy on various city or private construction projects.

As you probably know by now my husband and I do a lot of our own projects around the home. We attempt to work on our projects in the safest ways possible, for example we wear gloves, masks and safety glasses when doing many of our projects so that we can protect our hands, lungs and eyes.

I strongly believe that anyone working on a DIY project or who works professionally in the field of construction should have the appropriate safety gear.

DiscountSafetyGear.com has a wide assortment of industrial safety gear. They have products ranging from Safety Goggles to ear plugs, welding helmets and accessories, respiratory protection, Hard Hats, flashlights, other lighting accessories and many more products including a wide variety of First Aid Kits, and you’ll even find a section on safety laws and links to safety related websites and resources.

I think that this website has been well thought out. The menu system to the left has been divided into all the main safety gear related categories that I’d imagine anyone looking for safety related products would want to see.

When you open up one of the category sections, perhaps the hard hats section for example, you’ll find thumbnails that divide the section into sub-categories giving the visitor the ability to shop by price, brand, or type. Below that section you’ll see samples of their most popular hard hats.

Did you know that you can purchase Harley Davidson hard hats and Pink Hard Hats? You can be safe and maintain a fashionable look at the same time!

When you find a product that interests you all you need to do is click on the thumbnail and you’ll be taken to a page where you can get more information about the product and see the various prices for that product. Since this website specializes in supplying industrial safety gear you’ll see discounted prices listed for the purchase of multiple quantities of each item.

I found the site to be easy to use, easy to navigate and there were images and detailed product descriptions. That’s everything I want in an online store – no matter what they sell.

Since there are more and more people like myself who are beginning to renovate their homes or properties on their own I’d love to see a home safety category that would list products that could be used in the home setting to keep home owners safe.

Perhaps they could sell three legged ladders, painting platforms – especially ones that could be set up over a staircase and other items such as those. Perhaps the store owners could look up data about accidents in and around the home and see how many are related to DIY, maintenance or renovation products and choose to sell items that would make the kind of activities that caused those accidents safer?

I would think falls from high places – like working on a roof, or falling off an unsecured ladder would be high on the list, which is why I was suggesting that a three legged ladder might be an item that they should consider selling.

If the Discount Safety Gear store owners took the time to look up home related accidents they might want to make up some information sheets or FAQ’s that explained how to do some of the more common maintenance and DIY tasks in a safer manner. I’m certain that they’d get an influx of visitors who were searching for this kind of information.

I realize that the Discount Safety Gear store sells products mainly to small construction companies, but if they added a selection of items and information related to home safety gear I think they’d double or even triple their traffic and sales. There’s a lot of potential for this store if they’d care to expand.

If you work in an industry that requires safety gear, or do home reno projects like myself, do take a look at this online store. The items are reasonably priced, and if you purchase over $100 worth of goods the shipping is free. Check it out.

Camping in a remote area? Rent gear and a Satellite phone

by Tricia

This is a long weekend here in Canada. We call it the Victoria Day Weekend as we honor Queen Victoria’s Birthday.

This weekend often falls close to May 24th, so we’ve come to traditionally call this weekend the May 24. It’s not this year, but that’s what we call it. Why? Well, the May 2 4 is usually one of the first long weekends of the year. Certainly it’s often the first long weekend when the weather is nice enough to go up to our cottages or go camping. The 2 4 part comes in because well, we are Canadian after all and Canadians like their beer. A case of beer here contains 24 bottles or cans. Hence the May 2 4 weekend. A time of camping and fun!

Almost all my life I’ve been one of the people who traditionally either go up to the cottage or go camping on this weekend. This year we won’t be doing that, but I’d love to have made plans to go camping as I just love it.

If we were going camping I think we’d have to replace some of our gear, or perhaps rent some gear.

If you enjoy camping but haven’t been for a while because you don’t have a tent, backpacks, sleeping bags, cooking equipment or other camping related gear you can always visit Lowergear.com and check out their camping and GPS rentals. You can rent everything you need from Lowergear.

There’s actually several benefits to renting camping equipment that I can think of. If you don’t go camping very often you might not want to buy a bunch of camping gear and have to store it in the off season only to pull it all out once a year or even less often. This might be especially true if you live in a condo or apartment, or even a small 1920’s house like ours that doesn’t have much storage space.

Camping gear can be really expensive and if you aren’t using it- why buy it when you can rent it. Wouldn’t it be awful to buy say $1000 worth of camping gear, store it in a basement or garage and then when you do need to use it find that it’s been either water damaged or chewed and damaged by mice.

Now, we have most of the camping gear that we’d ever need – including a pop up trailer! However, if we were going in a remote area with tents and backpacks it sure would be nice to have GPS gear or even a satellite phone. That would up the safety factor that much more.

If you are an avid camper and thinking of purchasing a high tech piece of camping equipment, but you aren’t all that sure that it would suit your needs you could rent the gear from Lowergear.com and basically give it a try before you buy.

Check out the Lowergear.com site. You’ll be surprised at just how high tech the gear is, and at the wide selection too.

If you are going camping this weekend – Be Safe!

Lowest prices on Sunglasses at OpticsPlanet

by Tricia

Spring is almost upon us, and with it’s warmer temperatures and sunny days many of us who enjoy gardening will be getting outdoors more often. Being outdoors more often means it’s time to start thinking about sunglasses and other forms of eyewear to protect our eyes.

I believe I’ve talked about OpticPlanets.net on this site in the past, but it’s worth mentioning again as they have a sale on their huge line of Sunglasses, Goggles, protective eyewear and many of the other products that they sell.

Opticsplanet carries top of the line quality eyewear from companies like Bobster, Body Specs, Wile X, Bolle, ESS, Revision eyewear and Serengeti. You’ll find everything from designer sunglasses, to Motorcycle and ski goggles. They also have the lowest prices guaranteed.

The company says they offer discount sunglasses, and yes the prices are fantastic, but the quality and choice are great too. I’m leaning towards getting a pair or two of their Serengeti sunglasses because I really like the styles they make. Funny thing is, my husband took a look at OpticsPlanet earlier today and he was fond of the Serengeti eyewear as well. I guess we think alike.

I remember what I told you about OpticsPlanet before. I posted about their line of flashlights, microscopes, binoculars, telescopes and other cool stuff in the past. It’s just a really cool online store that carries a lot of interesting items.

Check it out for yourself. Oh and if you do decide to purchase sunglasses, eyewear or something else from OpticsPlanet you’ll be pleased to know that they offer Free UPS on all orders above $29.95. That’s a pretty good deal.
