Beautiful Fringed Tulip

Fringed Orange Tulip

You’re probably starting to think that most of my tulips are orange, aren’t you?

Honest, I have tulips in many different colours. It’s just that the orange ones seem to interest me the most this year. I love the fringed tulips. As you can see in this closeup they are very ornate and have a lot of flare, or Zing. Whatever you want to call it, they give the garden a little something extra and I just love them.

Late yesterday afternoon I decided to do some work in my front garden. That’s where I found this beauty.

The front garden has been pruned and tidied up now. Hopefully I’ll feel up to finishing the back garden sometime later today. I really need to get the flower beds in the back yard finished.

BTW this photo, and the one I’m using on Tricia’s Musings is straight off the camera. No cropping, no adjusting color – just as is. Some people have been asking what kind of camera I’m using, it’s a Sony Cybershot DSC-H5 7.2MP.

Neglect

by Tricia

I’ve been off work since the beginning of December due to a Crohn’s flare. I thought that since I was home I’d be able to putter in the garden and that it would look just lovely this year. However, I’m still not feeling all that well and I’m sorry to say that I haven’t been in my garden anywhere near as much as I’d like to be.

I purchased a number of annual flowers to plant in the garden at oh, the beginning of May. These plants are to fill some baskets – hanging and otherwise, containers and a few are to fill some empty spaces in my flower bed boarders. I purchased well over 300 plants! Just little ones, you know the ones that come in containers of four? Yep …. 300+ in total.

I managed to plant 9 hanging baskets, and put some marigolds around the border of our boulevard garden bed but that’s it. I still have many containers of plants to be planted.

My garden also needs some tidying. The roses are going wild since they are so much bigger this year due to our mild winter. I have to get out there and put some stakes in the ground and tie those unruly plants so they look tidier and straighter. I also have some red cedar mulch that I want to put down on the beds.

I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me and I hope to get most of it done this week before it starts to get too hot.

Wish me luck!

Our Garden’s Evolution

by Tricia

I joined Gardenweb in the Winter of 2001 as I was planning our garden. The following is an excerpt from my gardenweb member page:

2001

“I’ve recently purchased a house and I’m looking forward to starting my garden next year. I plan to landscape the backyard so that it will have several areas of floral plants, a vegetable garden, and a pond surrounded by a rock garden.

I’m not new to gardening- but new to creating my own garden. When I was a child my parents always had a nice vegetable garden, flowering trees, and flower beds that needed tending. We also had two very large vegetable gardens at our cottage …. so yes I have quite a bit of past experience weeding and growing vegetables in particular. ”

Well, the garden that I was dreamily planning was started in the spring of 2001 and has grown from there. Read the next post for another excerpt from my gardenweb members page regarding the progress of our garden.
