What is your home furnishing style?

by Tricia

Home furnishing styles

Every few years I get the urge to redecorate my home, but of course, who can afford to complete refurnish a home? Pretty much no one these days, I’m sure.

I’m sure you know I don’t redecorate my home every few years. When I was much younger than I am now it was much harder than it is now to overcome the urge to go out and buy new furniture.

What I did do was to try to purchase furniture that I thought I could love for many years after carefully thinking about what styles I really like in my home. The information above discusses several iconic American home furnishing styles such as Beach Cottage, Shabby Chic, Deluxe and Classic and Lux and Modern.

The style my home is furnished in is a cross between modern and shabby chic. Yes I know it’s an odd mix, but we live in a house built in the 1920’s that we’ve been renovating ourselves.  We’ve opened it up so it has a very modern open concept and half of our furnishings are very modern and the other half are the exact opposite – antique or vintage.  We get quite a few compliments about our decor and even people walking past our house when our doors are open stop to look and comment so I guess it must work.  The main thing is that we like it.  I satisfy my urge to redecorate by moving the furniture around rather than going out and buying new furniture.

Redecorating? Consider Modern Furniture

by Tricia

I know that I’ve said many times that I live in an older home and my decor tends towards traditional and antique styles but I do enjoy some of the modern furniture pieces. In fact, perhaps when we get around to renovating our basement I’ll choose more modern decor.

oasisfp.jpgPerhaps something like this modern sofa design.

If you enjoy the the look of modern furniture you might want to visit Concept Furniture. They have a wide selection furnishings for the whole home.

bedfp.jpgYou’ll find modern bedroom furniture, wall units, hall units, wardrobes, dining room furniture, entertainment centers, office furniture and modern furniture designs for kids.

All of the furniture is authentic brand name European made furniture.

Their furnishings come from Germany, Spain, Belgium, Italy and France. The pieces are crafted in Europe and then shipped to the Concept Furniture warehouse in the US.

I really like their sofas and coffee tables.

I can certainly see a room in my house, probably the basement which will be a den, with a large modern sectional sofa. It would be perfect for lounging on during movie night! They look so comfortable.

Trying to make plans for our bathroom reno project

by Tricia

Once my husband and I complete our living room dining room renovation project it will be time to move on to the next project. We won’t be taking a break in between projects since the living room dinning room reno has taken forever and has been more break than work lately.

I’ve love to work on our upstairs bathroom. It’s so small! At this point I haven’t decided whether we’ll work with the very small space that we have or if we’ll knock down a wall and expand the bathroom. Obviously knocking down a wall and expanding would be what I’d prefer to do as we’d be able to have a very nice upstairs bathroom if we did that.

Still … it’s a much bigger project in every way from expenses to the amount of work that would have to be done. We’d have to move the pipes and drains and so on. I’m not sure we’re up for that right now. Not on our own anyway.

So, if I were to stick with just renovating the small space that we currently have I think that it might be best to take out the bathtub altogether and install a very nice shower. Ideally I think something like this shower would work well in our small space. I think it would take a little less room than a bathtub so we’d be able to put a upright cabinet in the bathroom as well.

Right now we’ve just got a toilet, bathtub with makeshift shower and a very small sink with an under sink storage cabinet.

Speaking of sinks I’d love to get a new sink. One that looks like a beautiful bowl sitting on a table or counter with wall mount taps above the bowl. That would look beautiful.

I’ve actually been looking at the selection of bathroom tubs, showers, taps, furnishings and accessories at www.Taps4Less.com to get some ideas for our bathroom renovation project.

As you can tell I don’t have any definite plans for this upcoming project. It’s going to be a difficult project whether we keep the bathroom as is or expand.

Any ideas?
