I missed Canada Blooms

by Tricia

Can you believe that I missed the biggest Horticultural event in Canada?

The “Canada Blooms” garden show happens every year in Toronto’s Convention center. It’s so big that if you really want to see all of the different landscapes that the show creators have put together, and stop at every single booth you need at least two days to see the show. Not to mention the fact that you could also attend speeches by TV gardening show celebs, master gardeners, and book authors.

You know when the show was? It was last weekend – March 7th through the 11th.

I had been keeping my eye out for news of the show but I guess I got too busy and forgot about it just when I should have been paying closer attention.

If I’d managed to attend the show I would have brought my camera so I could show you just how large the show really is. I would have also been able to show you through photos some of the new trends in gardening that are expected to be big hits this year.

I bet I would have had a whole week of articles to write about the show.

Ok, well, if you are still reading this blog next February can you remind me to go to the show next year? Believe me, with the wealth of information that I’d get at the show it’d be in your best interest to remind me to attend so that I can pass all that great info on to you, my regular readers.

Florapedia – ProFlowers new flower guide

by Tricia

Can you believe that today is the first full day of Spring? Time certainly flies doesn’t it? Before long it will be Easter and then Mother’s day right after that!

I don’t know about you, but my garden is only just beginning to wake up. I certainly won’t have flowers growing by Easter, and they’ll only just be starting to bud when Mother’s day arrives.

Having said that, I have bookmarked a great site called ProFlowers. They specialize in flower & plant delivery, and have quite a nice assortment of bouquets, plants, planted baskets and even gourmet gifts. They even offer International delivery.

There’s one special feature of the ProFlowers site that I think many of you will enjoy. It’s their new flower guide. It’s called Florapedia. The Florapedia has great information about choosing the right kind of flower for a particular occasion, care and tips, Floral factoids, and decorating tips and ideas. This is a great added bonus to the site, and I’m certain you’ll learn something new in the Florapedia.

So keep Proflowers in mind the next time you need to send someone a special occasion gift, and remember to take a peek at the Florapedia too.

I see green growth in my garden

by Tricia

The weather really warmed up here over the last few days. All the snow and ice that we got a week and a half ago is pretty much gone!

The moisture must have done the grass and the garden beds some good. The grass doesn’t have that worn out dormant look. It actually looks pretty green. I guess that’s because we only had really cold weather here this winter for a month and a half rather than three or four months like we normally do.

From my kitchen window I can see small patches of green poking up in the garden beds. One of the sedum has new growth starting, and there’s definitely some chives coming up. Near the chives I see another patch of green but I can’t remember what I’ve got planted there. I’m wondering if it’s some bulbs coming up?

I’ll have to take a walk outside tomorrow and see what else is happening in the garden.

It’s a shame that these plants are coming up and that the snow has melted. You see, we are expecting at least one more round of fairly cold weather in the next few days. I hope it doesn’t damage the foolish plants that decided to begin to grow so early.

Have any of you noticed signs of your plants beginning to grow again in your gardens?
