One of the most brilliant perennials that I grow in my garden is the Crocosmia. This one is called Crocosmia Lucifer, probably because of it’s fiery flaming red blooms.
It’s extravagant and flamboyant isn’t it?
The plant grows with reedy long leaves that come up in a clump. These green leaves reach three to four feet in height. In mid-July or so the flower stalks begin to grow and this is of course what it looks like in full bloom.
I have a few clumps of this plant that are getting a little unruly and might begin to crowd out other plants if I don’t divide them this spring. I guess this is yet another job that I must add to my list of garden chores in the coming months.
