Bi-color Monkshood makes a lovely addition to the garden

Bi-color Monkshood buds

Monkshood Aconitum

Our bi-color monkshood has started to bloom. It’s a lovely flower. A little unusual looking but lovely just the same. I should have tried to get a photo of the foliage as well as it’s quite nice.

I grow two types of Monkshood. The second type doesn’t bloom until the end of August thought – it’s the Azure monkshood and it’s absolutely lovely. Don’t worry there’ll be photos when it blooms.

Monkshood Aconitum

I grow this monkshood in the far corner of my garden near some roses and our very very slow growing holly tree. It spruces up the area when it’s in bloom.

Do you grow any unusual or less common types of plants?

Macro Lavender blooms

Lavender flowers - close up

The other day I took this macro photo of blooming lavender. I love the delicate blooms on each lavender spike.

I grow lavender and or Salvia in front of many of my rose plants. It’s a lovely combination. Many of the roses are a light pink or light yellow and the bluish purples of the lavender and Salvia compliment the roses quite nicely.

I especially love lavender. It doesn’t have much scent unless you walk up to it and disturb the plant or purposely crush some of the leaves in your hand, but once you do the scent fills the air for a while. Usually your hand has the scent on it was well.

I haven’t done this for a few years, but this year I think I’ll gather some of the lavender blooms and dry them to make my own potpourri. Have you made your own potpourri with flowers from your garden?

BTW

I’m sorry I missed last weeks GTS. My sites were down for three and a half days! It was terrible. I had to change web hosts because of the problems I was having with my old host.

I also wanted to let you know that I added another one of my blogs to the GTS. Visit My World and see what I’ve posted for my first GTS on that site.

My sites are back up!

by Tricia

I’m so sorry to those of you who might have tried to reach this site or any of my others between sometime Saturday morning and late last night. I had a terrible problem with my web host and I’ve since moved all of my sites over to a new web host.

This problem should not occur again. I’m quite happy with my new host and I think my sites are in good hands.

I was so busy trying to get my sites back up again – contacting my web host via support tickets and so on that I didn’t take a time out to visit Green Thumb Sunday bloggers.

I do hope that my Green Thumbers did some green thumb posts on Sunday. If I get time I’ll try to come around a visit some of you. I don’t think I’ll do a GTS post since it’s already Tuesday, but I will try to make next Sundays extra special to make up for missing this past Sunday.
