Using business cards to get info out about your blog

by Tricia

I was just saying on one of my other blogs that I should get some business cards made up so that I can hand them out to anyone interested in visiting my sites.

You know when you meet people at parties and you get talking about your interests?

Business cards would work great for a site like this. While it’s true I haven’t written out any plant profiles for a while there is a lot of good gardening info on this site. I run into people all the time who have an interest in gardening. If I had business cards printed out advertising As the Garden Grows I could just tell them to come visit my blog to get info on whatever plant we happened to be discussing.

Isn’t that a great idea?

Does anyone else do this?

This is a photo of Chive buds and new Chive flowers that I took about two weeks ago. The chive flowers are actually beginning to wain now, but there’s still a few left.

I love growing Chives. They are one of the first plants to make an appearance each spring, often showing their green stems by the end of March. It’s not uncommon for us to be able to pick chives and use them in our cooking – salads, marinades, on top of foods – from mid April right through until the first snow fall in November or early December.

The flowers are just a lovely bonus! I love the buds before the flowers develop and bloom – they look a bit like garlic sections or tiny onion bulbs. Then the beautiful full petaled blossoms open and often stay around for two or three weeks.

Do you grow chives or other plants from the allium family? Edible or ornamental?

Check out the beautiful Hosta photo that I’ve got on Tricia’s Musings!

Plant your seedlings before it gets too hot

by Tricia

Who’s busy in the garden today?

It’s still early enough in the season to plant veggies, annuals and perennials. If you are like me, and haven’t started planting yet get to it soon. The evenings in most places still cool down at night and this is perfect for helping new plants get established.

If you delay and don’t end up planting until it’s hot and humid pretty much 24 hours a day it will take a lot more care to help newly planted annuals and veggies grow and survive.

I guess I’m writing this partly as a reminder and motivator for myself as I’m way behind in my garden care, maintenance and planting. If I don’t plant the annuals and veggies that I’ve already purchased soon they will likely die as they are drying out and becoming root bound in their small containers.

Is anyone else as behind as I am?

Maybe I should change the name of this site to As the Garden dwindles.
