Kitchen renovation – Glass accent tiles?

by Tricia

Our house is a work in progress. I know I’ve mentioned in the past that we are in the process of finishing up our living room. No the tin ceiling tiles are not up yet! Hopefully we’ll get them up within the next month. At that point it won’t take long to finish our living room and dining room. Then I’ll be looking for our next DIY reno project. The kitchen or the basement will likely be our next big project.

Lucky for me, and perhaps you too if you are thinking about renovating your kitchen, I’ve just visited a site called FloorzBuzz.com. This company just launched it’s online store and it’s a great place to purchase glass accents and accent tiles.

If you watch any of the home renovation shows you might realize that glass accent tiles are being used more often. Floorzbuzz sells glass accent and Travertine Tile at a reasonable price to consumers, home renovators, contractors and interior designers.

I haven’t come up with a plan for our kitchen reno yet, but I know that I’m going to take down the ceramic tiles that literally line the walls. They are from the floor to five feet up the wall! It looks ugly! I don’t know what I’ll do with the walls yet, but I can see using glass accent tiles on the walls in the counter area. Glass accent tiles have a nice glow to them. They are very appealing to look at, and since they are impermeable and non-porous they should be easy to clean and maintain.

Our kitchen floor has laminate wood flooring. It’s lighter than the white oak flooring in our dining room which is the next closest room to the kitchen. I’ve often thought of replacing the laminate flooring with tiles. Perhaps the Travertine tiles would look nice.

As you can see I still need to put more thought into exactly what I’ll do to our kitchen when we renovate, but if you’re a little further along in your plans and would like to get a good price on some lovely tiles please do consider visiting floorzbuzz.com. I’m certain you’ll like their selection.

The fastest way to get a home loan

by Tricia

If you’re a home owner or a soon to be home owner you might be interested in visiting the fast home loans website. The site was created in order to provide a fast way for borrowers to get loans for new or second mortgages, construction loans, home equity loans or even home improvement loans and more.

The website is very easy to use. Just fill in a form – no Social Security number required – and often within minutes you’ll have up to four offers from lenders that offer the type of loan that you are interested in. The lenders will be from your region of the Country as well, which will make it easier to deal with them in person when necessary if you choose to borrow from that company.

If you visit the site you might be interested in looking at their mortgage glossary in order to learn more about mortgage specific terms. The glossary is still being built but there is some information in it at this time. A mortgage calculator and other free tools will be added to the site soon too. This might be a website worth bookmarking.

Tin Ceiling going up this weekend

by Tricia

Our renovations are back on!

We have two good friends coming to our house from out of town this weekend. They’ll arrive on Friday. They are coming to help us finally put up our tin ceiling!

We purchased the tin ceiling tiles three years ago when we started renovating our living room and dining room area by knocking down some walls, and venetian plastering the walls. Now we’ll be working on getting the majority of the ceiling tiles up.

I’m excited! I’m finally going to see what the rooms look like with their new ceiling.

We’ll have to get a case of beer to keep the guys hydrated. (yes I know beer actually dehydrates, but most men don’t seem to realize that) My husband also wants to have a bbq but with the weather being so cold now I’m not so sure about that. We’ll see.

Once the ceiling is finally finished we just need to put the baseboards on, figure out what kind of molding will look nice with the tin ceiling and also decide what kind of wall to put up between the basement stairs and the dining room.

At that point all of the work we’ve started will be finished. After that we’ll decide whether we’re going to begin renovating the unfinished basement or the kitchen. This house is going to be very nice when we’re done.
