New look for As the Garden Grows

by Tricia

I’m sure that many of my regular visitors have probably noticed that As the Garden Grows got a new look last weekend.

I liked the other theme, but it didn’t work well in all browsers. In fact a few people had trouble commenting because the comment section would drop down to the bottom of the page in I.E. I believe.

I decided it was time to freshen up the gardening site and I do hope that you like the new look and new features. As far as I can tell it works fairly well in most browsers although one of the sidebars seems to drop to the bottom when the main page is viewed in Internet Explorer 7, but the sidebars seem to work ok on all the rest of the pages.

If you have any difficulties with the theme such as part of a page not loading I’d appreciate it if you’d tell me which page you were on and what browser (and browser version) you were using when you experienced a problem. I’m just trying to work out the bugs so most everyone can view and use this site easily.

Next up … I need to restore comments in the page section. This theme didn’t come with comments in the page template so I’ve got to figure out how to add them in.

Yellow rose

This rose is Graham Thomas. It’s an English Rose by David Austin. Isn’t it lovely?

This rose grows to close to 8 feet or so each year, even after a bad winter when I’ve had to prune the rose bush down to a foot or less in the spring. It’s very resilient. It also blooms abundantly each season. I’d say once it gets going the blooms come almost continuously actually!

Sorry I’m so late with my GTS post this week. My mouse died yesterday and I didn’t get a new one until this afternoon … plus we’ve had major storms here again too. Ice storms and lots of rain and that’s affected my internet connection. As a result of all of that I wasn’t able to post until now. I sure hope my internet connection stays up this time.

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information. GTS participants remember to check in at As the Garden Grows each week so that we’ll know you made a new post!

Chicago Peace

Chicago Peace … Originally where this rose is now planted I grew Love and Peace – a rose that descended from Chicago Peace. My Love and Peace didn’t make it this year. It gave up the ghost in late spring. I think our mild winter and lack of winter protection did it in.

I wish I still grew Love and Peace, but I’m very happy with the rose that I chose to replace it. Isn’t Chicago Peace lovely? I quite enjoy the multicolored flowers.

Sorry about my GTS post being late today. We’ve had a huge snow storm here in Toronto, getting about 40 cm of snow in one day. (that’s close to 16 inches) The weather people are saying that this is the most snow we’ve got in one day since 1944! I believe the storm had something to do with our cable and internet going out sometime early this morning and not coming back on till much much later in the day.

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.
