My hummingbird feeders paid off!

by Tricia

Guess what!

I just about had a heart attack on Sunday. I was standing in the kitchen talking to my husband and I turned my head to look out the window at the garden and some fluttering by the hummingbird feeder caught my eye.

I realized that I was seeing the first hummingbird of the season!

I had just taken a Tylenol because I had an awful migraine on Sunday (in fact I still have a headache!). In fact I’m not even sure that I’d finished swallowing the pill when I saw the hummingbird. I was so surprised all I could do was point out the window and go “Oh” “oh” “oh”.

I scared my husband. He thought something was wrong with me so he wasn’t even looking out the window where I was pointing. I either finally spit out the word hummingbird or he turned his head enough to see the bird examining the feeder.

We’ve only had one hummingbird that we actually saw before and that was three years ago! We’ve since purchased and extra hummingbird feeder and I guess it paid off.

So we were both staring out the window amazed that a little colorful hummingbird had bestowed a visit upon us when my husband decided to try to get the camera. I wanted to take photos, but overall I was more interested in watching the bird rather than running to get the camera and losing those precious seconds of hummingbird sightseeing.

He did manage to get my new SLR digital camera for me before the bird flew away. Luckily it takes several photos in a row so I managed to take about 20 pictures before it took off.

While the hummingbird was visiting it hovered around the bird feeder. I was surprised that it tried to get at the top of the clear glass bird feeder even after it had found the feeding stations in the bottom. It also visited the purple petunias that were nearby, two or three of the white phlox plants, the Rose of Sharon, and I think it also hovered near the bee balm. It even rested on the clothes line three times. We also have another hummingbird feeder near the back of the yard beside the huge rose bush William Baffin. The hummingbird visited that feeder and possibly the purple clematis Jackmani beside it.

As I said I do have photos. I just haven’t uploaded them to the computer yet. I’ll post some of the better photos soon.

I’m going to be looking out my kitchen window a lot more often now that I know we have hummingbird that’s discovered our feeders!

I found the perfect stainless steel range hood for our kitchen reno

by Tricia

I am so happy that our house guests are gone! Now I can get back to blogging on a regular basis again. Can you believe I’ve had up to nine house guests in my home over the last week!

My 19 year old niece brought a college girlfriend with her and I ended up going shopping with them twice. I forgot how much teenage girls like to shop!

While they were trying on clothes, shoes, cosmetics and buying bathing suits that they didn’t even use at the beach, I wandered around and I found a really nice store that sold home appliances and I spent some time in their modern kitchen showroom.

You might remember that I’ve said one of the rooms we hope to renovate soon is our kitchen. I’m always interested in getting ideas or finding items that I want to purchase for our kitchen.

Well I must say that I was successful in finding something for my kitchen that we actually need right now. It’s a range hood. The one that we have over our stove came with the house and it died last year!

Since I’ll be changing the whole layout of the kitchen when we renovate I’m going to wait to buy a range hood that suits the new modern look of our kitchen. I’m certain that I found the one that I want though.

range_hood-galaxy2.jpg Futuro Futuro makes a large variety of Italian made range hoods. The kitchen showroom that I was browsing around in had a few different models of wall mounted and island mounted range hoods and I think I found the perfect style for our new kitchen.

Isn’t that a beautiful range hood? I could build my whole kitchen design around that sleek modern beauty.

It has four speed electronic controls, two halogen lights, automatic thermo protection and it runs very quietly. Obviously it’s also a modern stainless steel design. It’s three filters are dishwasher safe too so it will be easy to clean and maintain.

My husband loves the design too. You see he wasn’t with us on our shopping trip so I came home and looked up the manufacturer so I could show him the range hood I’d found and he agrees with me that it will make a fantastic addition to our kitchen renovation plans. So I’m a happy lady. I have the go ahead to buy this range hood when we’re ready.

What do you think of this range hood. Would you like to have something like this in your kitchen?

A little rose named Sunsprite

by Tricia

Sunsprite Rose

Sunsprite. What an aptly named rose.

This gem of a rose is located in the back flower bed of my garden.

Considering that this rose is not all that tall – perhaps 3 feet at it’s tallest – I really should have planted it in a more prominent position so that I could enjoy it’s lovely flowers more often.

When this rose blooms I can see it’s flowers from my kitchen window so there’s no worry that it’s lost among other plants in my garden.

Like many of my other roses the blooms of summer are a slightly different color than it’s spring blooms. This rose has a medium yellow bloom in the spring but as you can see in the heat of summer it’s much paler with white edges on the outer petals.

Do you grow Sunsprite?
