This weeks Theme is Shiny

DSC00811

Chris and I went to Chicago last summer and while we were there we toured downtown Chicago.

One of the places that I liked best in Chicago was Millennium park – see photo above – with it’s large outdoor entertainment theater and lovely flowers, and shrubs planted around it, and Cloud Gate.

I have photos of Cloud Gate on Tricia’s Musings. That’s the coolest sculpture ever so you must visit my other site too.

I’d love to go to Chicago and attend a concert or play or whatever they might put on in the outdoor Millennium park. I’ve heard the acoustics’s there are supposed to be amazing.

This weeks Theme is Antique

This rose goes perfectly with this weeks Photo Hunter theme doesn’t it? I mean it’s name is Antique’89 – what could be better?

This is a rose that I wrote about several times last year. It finally grew this past year. I think if I hadn’t battled it and shaped it as I described in a post called “War of the Roses” it would have been 20 feet tall and hanging over patio table making it extremely dangerous to sit at the table. This rose is a monster. It’s thorns are huge and catch on your clothes and skin so easily.

If this rose grows this year like it did last year I think I’m going to have to move it to it’s own area away from the seating area. It’s a wicked rose.

This weeks Theme is Broken

00029159

Here’s an idea for all the combo gardener / computer geeks out there. Broken monitors apparently make great planters.

I’m not sure it’s my gardening style but it’s kind of a fun look isn’t it? I wonder what that gardener is going to do when the pine or cedar bushes get bigger? They should have planted them in bigger monitors!

If anyone has done something like this, or has other interesting ways to use common objects as planters I’d love to see the photos.
