Pelargonium

Pelargonium

The pelargonium is often mistaken for, and sometimes even mislabeled in home centers as a geranium.

It’s related but it most definitely is not a geranium. I grow these flowers in the summer – putting them in my hanging baskets, pots, and window boxes.

The flowers come in many different colours and they bloom on stiff stalks. As the blooms on the stalk fade the stalk dies off and dries up. I regularly cut out the dead and dying stocks in order to make the Pelargoniums bloom a little bit faster.

A number of people have contacted me in the last two weeks wanting to join Green Thumb Sunday but they have failed to let me know whether they’ve successfully put the blogroll on their sites. If you are new and you’re playing, but you don’t see your site listed on the blogroll – your likely one of the people that I’m talking about. Just let me know that you are playing and that you have the blogroll up and I’ll get you listed. Ok?

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

Time Lapse: Amaryllis

by Tricia

Here’s an interesting video of an amaryllis blooming.

I love amaryllis.

I have three in my basement right now staying cool. Actually, maybe it’s good that I’m creating this post right now because I think I’d better bring them upstairs and let them start getting some bright light.

I want them to bloom in late January or early February just when I’m really jonesing for some pretty flowers.

Watch the background in this video too … there’s a lot of things going on in that home! LOL

Have you ever had the opportunity to watch a squirrel run around your yard or the neighborhood?

They’re rarely alone. If one’s digging a whole in your garden bed another one is sure to show up and try to scare the first squirrel away so that it can have the goody that was being buried. The ones I see are always chasing each other along any of the fences that enclose my yard, up the electric pole and across the electrical wires that are high above over our yards.

I think someone snapped this photo during a rather ambitious chase. The lower squirrel is not going to let the other get up that skinny tree before it does. LOL
